Idrissa Gueye Red Card: Midfielder Apologises to Michael Keane for His Actions

Idrissa Gueye has apologised to his teammate Michael Keane for slapping him during Everton’s win over Manchester United on Monday.

Referee Tony Harrington sent the Everton midfielder off for violent conduct, leaving the Toffees with a man down for over 75 minutes.

However, despite the early dismissal, Everton secured maximum points from their trip to Old Trafford. Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall scored the only goal of the game from 20 yards out in the 29th minute.

Manchester United had 25 shots and generated an xG of 1.71, but despite this could not get the equaliser.

The defeat has dropped United to 10th in the Premier League table, putting manager Ruben Amorim under more pressure.

At the start of the season, The United Stand host Mark Goldbridge predicted Amorim would be sacked before Christmas.

Unless United return to winning ways, Goldbridge’s prophecy could come true.

The next Manchester United manager betting odds market is also getting plenty of interest after the match.

Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner is the favourite for the role should the Red Devils sack Amorim.

Idrissa Gueye shown red card for slapping Michael Keane

In the 13th minute, Gueye and Keane had an altercation after a miscommunication cost Everton possession on the edge of the box.

Bruno Fernandes took the shot, but it sailed wide of Jordan Pickford’s goal.

After the ball went out, Gueye charged towards Keane, with the pair exchanging words. Keane initially shoved Gueye, and the Senegalese responded by slapping his teammate.

Harrington had a clear view of the incident and showed Gueye a straight red.

Idrissa Gueye apologises to Michael Keane and teammates for red card

Idrissa Gueye has since apologised to Michael Keane and his Everton teammates for his actions on Monday.

In his Instagram story, he wrote:

I want to apologise first to my team-mate Michael Keane. I take full responsibility for my reaction. Plus, I also apologise to my team-mates, the staff, the fans and the club.

What happened does not reflect who I am or the values I stand for. Emotions run high, but nothing justifies such behaviour. I’ll make sure it never happens again.

It is the first time since December 2008 that Premier League teammates have been involved in an on-field altercation.

That time, Stoke City striker Ricardo Fuller was sent off after slapping his captain, Andy Griffin.
