German juggernauts Bayern Munich fell short against the mighty Inter Milan on Wednesday (April 16), crashing out of the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals after a 4-3 aggregate defeat.
Six-time European champions Bayern suffered a 2-1 defeat in the first leg at the Allianz Arena last week. However, considering they only had to overturn a one-goal deficit, the majority of Bayern fans fancied their chances. Unfortunately for the Bavarians, the Nerazzurri were a handful in front of their passionate fans at San Siro, and held them to a 2-2 draw.

Inter Milan 2-2 Bayern Munich: Match Summary
Bayern lodged their first effort on target in the sixth minute, with the evergreen Thomas Muller superbly controlling Michael Olise’s pass before shooting at goal. Yann Sommer, however, was alert and made a comfortable save to deny his former teammate.
Inter defended like their lives were on the line before creating a couple of good opportunities themselves through Marcus Thuram and Hakan Calhanoglu. However, Jonas Urbig did not have to make a save. The last opportunity of the first half fell to Bayern man Leroy Sane. The former Manchester City man attempted a half-volley, but Sommer managed to hold on to it.

In the 52nd minute, Inter’s resilience finally gave way, with Harry Kane levelling the score with a thumping low strike through Federico Dimarco’s legs. Inter, however, did not trail for long, with frontman Lautaro Martinez drilling the ball home from close range following a botched clearance.
Three minutes later, Calhanoglu sent a peach of a corner into the corner. Ex-Bayern man Benjamin Pavard rose the highest and sent his thumping header past Urbig. With around a quarter of an hour left to play, Eric Dier steered Serge Gnabry’s cross into the Inter net, setting up an epic finale.
The Bavarians piled on the pressure in the dying embers of the game, but Inter refused to break.
