Nottingham Forest are still assessing of all their options before the end of the January window, and despite lodging bids elsewhere, Jhon Duran transfer news suggests they have thrown their hat in the ring alongside Everton.
Nottingham Forest are seemingly desperate to add firepower to what has been a decidedly blunted attack this season.
Morgan Gibbs-White is the only Forest player to score more than three league goals this term, with Chris Wood unable to repeat his goalscoring exploits of last season and Igor Jesus’ talents seemingly reserved only for the Europa League.
It prompted Forest to add a fresh face to the forward line, with Lorenzo Lucca completing a loan deal from Napoli.
The club are still not content with their attacking depth, however, and have lodged an official bid for Crystal Palace’s wantaway striker Jean-Philippe Mateta.
Mateta, whichever suitor he ends up with, is looking more certain to leave by the end of January after Palace bid for Jorgen Strand Larsen on Thursday.
Bookmakers have slashed odds on Mateta having already agreed personal terms with Forest, but a deal hinges on whether the two clubs can agree on a price. Currently, Forest’s £35m bid is some way below Palace’s demands.
In case Forest do indeed miss out on Mateta, they would be keen on bringing a player back to England who has previously proved his pedigree in the Premier League.
Jhon Duran Transfer News Sees Nottingham Forest Keeping Tabs
One name that keeps making its way into the rumour mill is former Aston Villa striker Jhon Duran.
Everton are said to be keen on an approach for the Colombian, who is currently on loan at Fernerbache from Al-Nassr.
It is easy to forget just how sought-after he was before departing for Saudi Arabia, which in turn called into question whether he has the best intentions for his career.
Still just 22, he represents bundles of potential and an opportunity to perhaps start fresh in the Premier League.
Since returning to Europe on loan, Duran has netted three goals in 10 league games. There is a possibility the loan could be cut short if has a preference to move, with another temporary move likely with a view to a permanent deal further down the line.
Forest will of course be eager to tie down a permanent striker rather than opt for a second striker loan of the window, but Duran is high on their list in case of problems with their pursuit of Mateta.
