Liam Delap Transfer

Liam Delap has been linked with a transfer away from Ipswich this summer after a strong 2024/25 campaign, with the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea showing interest – but who will the Englishman join?

Why Are Manchester United Favourites To Sign Liam Delap?

The Red Devils have endured a difficult season in the Premier League and are relying on a Europa League triumph to avoid complete embarrassment.

Ruben Amorim’s biggest issue has been in front of goal, as after 33 Premier League games they have scored 38 goals which is the sixth-worst tally in the division.

Rasmus Hojlind has received a lot of criticism for his performances this season after scoring just three Premier League goals and summer signing, Joshua Zirkzee, appears to be performing better in the number 10 position.

Despite spending around £110m on these two attacking options since 2023, United are said to be in the hunt for a new talisman.

The Red Devils have been linked with a few options this summer but two names have continued to pop up – Liam Delap and Victor Osimhen.

Delap has enjoyed a successful campaign in his first season as a Premier League player, scoring 12 goals in the league and showing real potential at Portman Road.

Despite this strong performance, Ipswich are set for relegation into the Championship and leaves their star man in a difficult position as Delap is all-but certain to leave this summer.

As previously mentioned, Victor Osimhen is also an option for Manchester United however the Nigerian striker is being monitored by multiple clubs around Europe.

The 2023/23 Serie A winner would also cost considerably more than Delap due to his experience and record, meaning United could prefer a move for the Ipswich striker.

Are Chelsea Interested In Liam Delap?

Manchester United are not the only side that are reportedly interested in the former Hull City player, as Chelsea are also linked with a move for Delap.

The Blues began the 2024/25 season superbly but have struggled since the turn of the year and Enzo Maresca could be on his way out of Stamford Bridge.

Leading talisman, Cole Palmer, has not scored in the Premier League since January and Nicolas Jackson, who is Chelsea’s first-choice striker, has struggled with injury.

These issues have meant that adding another goal-threat to their roster is a huge aim for the upcoming transfer window and Chelsea are reportedly keen on Liam Delap.

Do Manchester City Have A Buy-Back Clause For Liam Delap?

Yes, Manchester City have a £40 million buy-back clause for Liam Delap after selling the striker to Ipswich for £15m + £5m in add-ons.

Pep Guardiola’s side would also get 20% of Liam Delap’s next transfer fee if it is over £20m, meaning they will benefit from his move regardless.

The Cityzens have been linked with a move for the Tractor Boys star, however, these rumours do not have as much weight as the others due to City’s attacking lineup.

Could Liam Delap Stay With Ipswich Town?

There is always a chance that Delap decides to stay with Ipswich in the Championship and get another season as the undisputed number nine under his belt.

However, this does seem very unlikely given his performances in the Premier League this season and the temptation to join a European giant could be too much.

The Tractor Boys are reportedly asking for around £30-£40 million, meaning the likes of Manchester United would be willing to pay-up.
