In a way, Luke Littler has transcended the sport of darts. It has gone from a popular game that fans loved to watch, mainly at Christmas time, to one of the most watched sports in the UK outside of Premier League football.

Luke Littler is of course head and shoulders above any of his contemporaries when it comes to popularity amongst darts players. Littler currently boasts over 1.2 million more followers than the second most followed darts player – Michael van Gerwen.
‘MVG’ boasts an Instagram following of 643,00o, making him the second most popular player in the world. Before the emergence of ‘The Nuke’, van Gerwen was by far and away the most popular professional darts player on the circuit.
However, with the emergence of Littler in the past year and the likes of Luke Humphries and a few others now regularly beating the Dutchman, his popularity may have stalled somewhat.

The full list of the current Top 25 most followed darts players in the world can be seen below. Notably, there is only one female darts player on the list, and no prizes for guessing who it is.
That’s right, it is of course Fallon Sherrock. Sherrock took the darting world by storm back in December 2019, becoming the first woman in history to beat a man at the PDC World Darts Championship.
Sherrock certainly smashed the glass ceiling with this feat, defeating Ted Evetts in Round 1 before following that up in Round 2 by defeating the seeded Mensur Suljovic.
This run in the 2020 World Darts Championship saw Sherrock’s popularity reach new heights, with her achievements going viral all across the world.

Some other big names from the world of darts feature inside the Top 25 most followed darts players in the world on social media platform Instagram.
One of those is Rob Cross. Cross sits in 12th spot with 140,000 Instagram followers. Cross’ significant lifestyle change may in turn help him get back to throwing his best darts, which will likely translate into a bigger following too.
The popular Ricky Evans is 13th with 134,000 Instagram followers, with former major winners Joe Cullen (110,000) and Chris Dobey (111,000) also in the list.
