Royale Pagaille Bids For Third Peter Marsh Chase and Sixth Haydock Park Win

Haydock Park will have everything crossed the weather plays ball this Saturday as this fixture has been called off twice in the last three seasons. The prospects look good though (albeit wet) and the star attraction will be Royale Pagaille, who is an expected Peter Marsh Chase runner and also a two-time winner of the race.

Andy Newton looks at the latest entries for the big Haydock race, plus the key Peter Marsh Chase trends and stats to apply to the final runners.

Did you know? 75% of the last 20 winners had won at Haydock before, while the race has only seen four winning favourites since 2000.

Royale Pagaille Returns To Beloved Haydock In Search Of Sixth Course Win

The term ‘horses for courses’ has never been so apt for the Venetia Williams-trained ROYALE PAGAILLE.

This Rich Ricci-owned 12 year-old has won at the Lancashire venue five times from nine starts.

In fact, his only other career wins (has won 7 times) came at Kempton and in Pau in France back in 2018.

He was last seen at the course running a gallant second to the classy Grey Dawning in the Betfair Chase back in November 2025 (see below).

Going down by 2 3/4 lengths at the line, but you feel Grey Dawning could have easily doubled that distance if he wanted – winning with ease.

That last run came at the age of 11, but with all racehorses aging another year on Jan 1st – this means Royale Pagaille will be back on Saturday aged 12.

But the good news for Royale Pag fans is the race has produced a 12yo winner, when Our Vic won in 2010.

While former Gold Cup hero Jodami also took the Peter Marsh aged 12 and Twin Oaks was another veteran to land the race in 1992.

Royale Pagaille is also now rated 159, which is 4lbs lower than his last win in this race (2022) when rated 163.

However, was pulled up in the ITV Racing scheduled race last year, when sent off as the 5/2 favourite.

Can he bounce back and win yet again at his beloved Haydock?

Royale Pagaille Haydock Park Record 🩷💚

The Royale Pagaille love affair with Haydock started in December 2020 when the Rich Ricci-owned horse won a Novice Chase there.

He’s gone onto win four more times at the track and was also runner-up in the 2021 Betfair Chase to Gold Cup winner A Plus Tard.
