Botafogo Stun PSG At Club World Cup As Fans Fight In Stands
South American champions Botafogo stunned European champions Paris Saint-Germain at the Club World Cup on Friday morning.
The Brazilian outfit claimed a 1-0 win at the Rose Bowl in California, with star striker Igor Jesus netting the sole goal to maintain his side’s 100% record at the tournament.
While the football played out, there were ugly scenes in the stands however. Footage emerged in the early hours of Botafogo and PSG fans fighting inside the stadium.
Both sets of fans were seen throwing punches at one another, while one Parisiens supporter attempted to stamp on the head of a Fogão fan.
There looked to be about 25 people involved in the brawl, with no security or police on hand to stop the fighting. It is unclear at this point what started the skirmish.
Additionally, it is unknown whether any injuries were sustained due to the incident.

Luis Enrique: “We Are Frustrated”
Speaking to the media following his side’s narrow triumph, Botafogo boss Renato Paiva was full of praise for the Ligue 1 champions: “Being a great team, playing together, all the guys defending, all the guys attacking, and that’s the big secret of this PSG team, that’s why they compete and win. They are a fantastic team.
“I said this, PSG are a lesson to everybody nowadays in football. And I told my guys, just be a team, enjoy playing together, attack together, defend together, and enjoy. And they did it. Fantastic.”
Luis Enrique, meanwhile, admitted that his side struggled to break down O Glorioso‘s defence.
“Obviously we are frustrated with the result. It was a very tight game, Botafogo defended very well, like almost no team in Ligue 1 or the Champions League
“It was a tough game from start to finish, and that’s normal. Playing against us is an extra source of motivation for our opponents. We need to be better. That’s been our message since the start of the week. It’s normal that these matches are difficult.”
PSG midfielder Warren Zaire-Emery added:Â “It was a very tough game against a very good Brazilian side that played with intensity and were very physical in the duels.
“I don’t think the score is a true reflection of the game because we had all the ball and created a lot of chances, but we didn’t put them away. I think we are a very good team and we need to continue doing what we’re doing and make the most of our scoring chances.
“We have one game left, it’s not over yet. We need to win our next game to qualify.”
