A star-studded Queen’s Club line up has been revealed ahead of the return of women’s tennis to the event for the first time in over half a century.

Who is Playing at Queen’s Club WTA 500 Event?

Women’s tennis will return to Queen’s Club for the first time since 1973 this summer, marking a historic new chapter in the event’s future.

For the past 50 years Queen’s has a popular precursor to Wimbledon as the world’s best male tennis players descend on London for the grass swing centrepiece.

Alongside the men’s ATP 500 event, Queen’s will host a WTA 500 tournament. Traditionally, Eastbourne has been the sole WTA 500 event staged in the UK as players prepare for Wimbledon, but it has been downgraded to a WTA 250 event and Queen’s will now be the higher tier tournament.

With this the first women’s event in over half a century, a suitably stellar Queen’s Club line up has been revealed. Recent Australian Open winner Madison Keys, four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka, British No.1 Katie Boulter, and 2021 US Open champion Emma Raducanu will all feature.

Madison Keys, who last month secured her maiden Grand Slam just before turning 30, revealed her excitement ahead of Queen’s: “I can’t wait for the HSBC Championships. Getting to compete there for the first time and experience playing at The Queen’s Club is going to be such a special occasion.”

It had been feared that attracting elite-level talent to the new tournament may prove difficult given its proximity to the tail end of the French Open, which concludes a week before.

It is unclear what impact the new Queen’s Club line up will have on precursor events such as Nottingham and Eastbourne, although the latter’s reigning champion and world number 11 Daria Kastakina will be returning.

Some players may opt for the Bad Homburg Open in Hesse with more ranking points on offer, although typically many prefer to be in closer proximity to London as Wimbledon approaches.
