Former Grand National-winning jockey Rachael Blackmore injured herself in a fall at Downpatrick on Friday 20th September and as a result faces a spell on the sidelines – which will include missing the upcoming Kerry National. Rachael Blackmore Suffers Neck Injury After Downpatrick Fall The new horse racing jumps season proper is on the horizon – with around a month till the first big Cheltenham meeting in October – but top Irish jockey Rachael Blackmore will now be facing a race against time to be fit after picking up an injury after a fall. Blackmore was in action at Downpatrick racecourse in Ireland on Friday 20th September when her mount Hand Over Fist took a tumble at the second last – with the horse leading at the time and looking to have a great chance of winning. The 7 year-old just left the ground a stride too early and ending up crashing down – pelting Blackmore to the ground in the process. As a result of the fall, Rachael Blackmore suffered a neck injury and missed her intended rides at Listowel on Sunday and Monday as their monster seven-day meeting started. She’ll now face a number of weeks away from the track as she recovers from the injury. Blackmore Was Due To Ride Amirite In The Kerry National Rachael Blackmore. who also won the 2022 Cheltenham Gold Cup, was also due to partner the Henry de Bromhead-trained Amirite in Wednesday’s Kerry National – a race the pair teamed up to win in 2019 with Poker Party. It’s unclear how long Blackmore is expected to be on the sidelines for, with the Irish Horse Racing Board saying “Rachael has sustained a neck injury and will not ride in the coming weeks while she undergoes rehabilitation”. With Blackmore injured, Amirite connections have turned to Darragh O’Keeffe to partner their Kerry National runner.
