Real Madrid star Rodrygo would prefer a move to Arsenal over north London rivals Tottenham if he makes a Premier League move.
The Brazilian winger favours a move to the Emirates, despite Los Blancos president Florentino Perez preferring to sell to Spurs, according to E-Noticies.
£70M Real Madrid Star Wants Premier League Transfer To Arsenal Instead Of Tottenham
Real Madrid winger Rodrygo would rather move to Arsenal over Tottenham Hotspur, should he leave Los Blancos and make the move to the Premier League.
That’s according to E-Noticies, who are reporting that the Brazilian star wants to team up with Mikel Arteta at the Emirates, should he leave Los Blancos in the January transfer window.
Madrid boss Xabi Alonso sent a clear message to Rodrygo before the start of this season, with the 24-year-old struggling for a starting spot since.
Rodrygo has started just two La Liga games this season and just one in the Champions League too.
The out-of-favour Madrid winger remains second choice behind Vinicius Junior, with speculation about his future gathering momentum once again as we approach the January transfer window.
According to the same Spanish report from E-Noticies, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez would prefer for Rodrygo to team up with Thomas Frank and Tottenham Hotspur, instead of signing for north London rivals Arsenal.
The latest update on Rodrygo’s situation is that the two-time Champions League winner would prefer a move to the Gunners over Spurs, if indeed his time at Madrid comes to an end this January.
Alonso, Perez and Madrid are prepared to let the winger leave in January, but would prefer to wait until the end of the season. Rodrygo’s value is said to be around the £70m (€80m) mark.
Rodrygo Prefers Arsenal Move Over Spurs, Says Spanish Insider
Tottenham remain interested in Real Madrid’s Rodrygo. However, they could face stiff competition from north London rivals Arsenal once again, just like they did in the summer in the whole Eberechi Eze saga.
According to Spanish outlet E-Noticies, Arsenal is the preferred destination of the Brazilian winger himself, but not of Los Blancos president Florentino Perez.
Perez feels that Spurs are a better option than the Gunners. This is due to Perez and Madrid preferring ‘to avoid strengthening a team that is usually more competitive’ in Europe, with Thomas Frank’s side deemed ‘less of a direct rival in European competitions than Arsenal’.
The same report claims that Rodrygo’s personal preference is a move to the Emirates rather than teaming up with Richarlison, James Madison and co.
Both Spurs and the current Premier League leaders are said to be willing to pay £70m for Rodrygo, who has been on the books of Madrid since 2019. His current contract runs until the summer of 2028, so it remains to be seen what happens regarding his future.
Adding Rodrygo to his squad could very much be the icing on the cake for Mikel Arteta, as his side chase their first Premier League title in over 20 years.
Madrid goalkeeper Thibault Courtois believes David Raya is a top three goalkeeper in world football, so adding Rodrygo to their forward line may well be the perfect signing for the Gunners.
Rodrygo ‘Very Much Back On The Radar’ Of Mikel Arteta, Says Bailey
Transfer journalist Graeme Bailey previously spoke of Arsenal’s desire to bring Rodrygo in, revealing that a transfer to the Gunners is a possibility:
“Rodrygo is very much back on the radar now,” Bailey told Arsenal Insider.
“He’s wanting out again as he’s not playing anywhere near enough football for Real Madrid at the moment. Arsenal are fully aware of what’s going on with him, his situation, etc.
“I think with Martinelli or Trossard potentially leaving next summer, he could be the icing on the cake signing for [Andrea] Berta,” Bailey concluded.
