Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane gave a damning assessment of Mason Mount after United’s 1-1 draw against West Ham.
It was another forgettable night at Old Trafford for Manchester United on Thursday.
Ruben Amorim’s side have shown signs of improvement, and are significantly better than last season.
But the same issues that led them to a 15th-placed finish in the Premier League last time out have continued to show up intermittently.
A 1-1 draw with 18th-placed West Ham left fans deflated, and pundits asking questions.
Diogo Dalot’s goal near the hour-mark had given them the lead, but they never looked like grabbing a second, and were eventually punished.
Soungoutou Magassa grabbed a scrappy equaliser seven minutes from time, earning the Hammers a valuable point.

Amorim has been slated for his poor substitutions, and failing to bring on Kobbie Mainoo.
The Portuguese has been under pressure again, with the next Manchester United manager odds suggesting Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner as the most likely replacement.
But aside from Amorim, one player in particular has drawn heavy criticism from United legend Roy Keane.
Roy Keane Slams Mason Mount For ‘Schoolboy’ Performance
Few of United’s players covered themselves in glory on Thursday.
Dalot’s goal was one of very few positive moments, even after Amorim emptied the United bench.
One of those replacements was Mason Mount, who came on for Matheus Cunha in the second half.
And it was the former Chelsea man that provoked Roy Keane’s wrath after the game.
Keane suggested that Mount, along with the other United subs, “brought the level down” when they came on.

Speaking on Sky Sports, he said: “When you look at the squad, considering the money that has been spent, they lack strength in depth. Particularly in the attacking areas.
“When you are trying to see a game off, I look at Mason Mount when he came on, some players take longer to get up to speed but he was like a schoolboy out there.
“You’re looking for players to come on with a presence,” Keane added.
“If anything, they brought the levels down at United. That seemed to be the case tonight.”
Since his £60 million arrival at Old Trafford in 2023, Mason Mount has struggled for form and fitness.
With just six goals and two assists in 58 appearances, his time at United has been severely disappointing to date.
Mason Mount’s England Squad Chances Dwindling
If Mount was hoping to have a strong season and put himself back in the reckoning for Thomas Tuchel’s England World Cup squad, he has so far failed.
The 26-year-old has earned 36 England caps so far, but has not featured since the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

But having played under former Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel, the Three Lions boss knows what Mount can deliver.
Time is running out, though, for a place at the World Cup.
Tuchel has made it clear that he expects his England stars to be playing regular, high-level football in order to prove their form ahead of the tournament.
So if Mount has any hope of an international recall, he needs to force his way back into the United starting lineup.
