Another busy weekend on the horizon and Andy Newton continues with his Saturday horse racing tips from the ITV Racing action at Haydock, Ascot and Kempton.
Across the afternoon there are NINE live races at the three tracks on the ITV Racing schedule, with Andy Newton, from the Final Furlong Podcast, giving you his quickfire 1-2-3 best bets.
At Kempton, Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe fancy Kalpana is the star of the show in the September Stakes (1:35pm) – a race she won last year.
But the big weekend race comes at Haydock with the Group One Sprint Cup (3:35pm).
Where all eyes will be on the French-trained Lazzat, who was an impressive winner of the QEII Jubliee Stakes at Royal Ascot in June – but was beaten at odds-on in the Prix Maurice de Gheest last time out.
You can also see our daily horse racing tips – with four best bets highlighted each day, including a NAP and NB.
Haydock Horse Racing Tips – Saturday 6th September 2025
1:15 – Haydock: Best Odds On The Betfair Exchange Superior Mile Stakes (Group 3) Cl1 (3yo+) 1m ITV
A very tricky opener, with many chances – including Make Me A King, Prague and Ice Max (if more rain comes), for last year’s winning trainer Karl Burke.
But a chance is taken on the Clive Cox runner FEARNOT returning to form despite running 8th at York last time. However, was only beaten 2 3/4 lengths that day and had to race wide up the straight.
Prior to that beat he the promising Bullet Point at Ascot and that horse has won again since – while even though this is a Group 3, this race probably isn’t really that level based on this years runners. The other plus is the draw (4) – as nine of the last 12 winners came from stalls 4 or lower.
CD winner Suite Francaise and the unbeaten Snow Master are others of interest – with the last-named coming from gate two, where four of the last seven winners have been.

🥈SUITE FRANCAISE
🥉SNOW MASTER
1:50 – Haydock: Betting.Betfair Ascendant Stakes (Listed Race) Cl1 (2yo) 1m ITV
Publish was pulled out of last week’s Solario Stakes at Sandown due to the ground and could be back here. He’ll be popular based on his win last time out and the form of that has been franked since.
However, his slight drift in the betting with the horse racing betting sites is the small worry, so a chance is taken on BOW ECHO, for the George Boughey team.
This Night Of Thunder colt impressed on debut at Newbury, winning by 4 1/2 lengths and the second Be The Standard has won since to frank the form.
Shayem also caught the eye on debut – winning here at Haydock and that track experience will be a plus.
While Newmarket winner Glacius might be a tad over-priced and comes from the hot gate 3, where three of the last four winners been.
🥇BOW ECHO
🥈PUBLISH
🥉SHAYEM
2:25 – Haydock: Betfair Plays In A Different League Handicap (GBBPlus Race) Cl2 (3yo) 1m6f ITV
Another tough race with stacks of claims. But the Andrew Balding yard have done well in this race in recent years (2 from last 9) and run Fantasy World and WAY OF STARS.
Both their runners are respected, but the better value could be Way Of Stars, with Tom Marquand catching the eye in the saddle. Was a nice winner at Goodwood in June and wasn’t disgraced in 4th at Haydock to Pole Star (another runner here) last time.
Meets that horse on 6lbs better terms this time and has also been freshened up with two months off.
Irish raider Winston Junior is respected too for the Harrington team – he last ran in the a Racing League race (2nd) and the form of that has been franked with the 4th Miss Dolly Rocker winning at Bath on Wednesday.
🥇WAY OF STARS (e/w)
🥈WINSTON JUNIOR
🥉FANTASY WORLD
3:00 – Haydock: Betfair Exchange Old Borough Cup Handicap (GBBPlus Race) Cl2 (3yo+ 0-105) 1m6f ITV
The ‘tricky’ theme continues here for this competitive renewal of the Old Borough Cup over 1m6f.
Stressfree is shortlisted after a fine 4th in the Ebor last time and is only a pound higher in this slightly easier-looking race.
Paddy The Squire for Iain Jardine, who has won this race a few times before, and the likely favourite The Reverend will be popular too. The last-named actually won on this day at Ascot (3:15) 12 months ago.
But a chance is taken on MASTER BUILDER and Contacto. The pair also ran on this card last year too – winning the previous Haydock race, when first and second.
Yes, Master Builder hasn’t won a race since but is only 4lbs higher now and returning to Haydock for the first time could spark him back to life. While his last run (12th Goodwood) came off a 2 1/2 month break so can be expected to have improved. William Buick riding is the icing on the cake.
Contacto is only a pound higher than last year, when second to Master Builder, but this Balding runner gets in with a low weight (8-13) and can go well at a nice price.
🥇MASTER BUILDER (e/w)
🥈CONTACTO
🥉STRESSFREE
3:35 – Haydock: Betfair Sprint Cup Stakes (Group 1) Cl1 (3yo+) 6f ITV
The day’s feature race and really you are either with the top-rated Lazzat or not. This French speedster was a nice winner of the QEII Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot but lost at odds on in France last time.
Looking at the Sprint Cup trends, he seems to tick a lot – so it’s hard to put you off him.
But he’s not great value at around 2/1 and after that last defeat – maybe that tough Ascot win has left a mark.
The sprinting division in the UK and Ireland is also dire at the moment though and that means we could easily get another shock (or mini-shock) here.
Sky Majesty To Rule In Sprint Cup
With most of these sprinters beating each other this season – then maybe the way to go is to side with an improver – which could be SKY MAJESTY.
This filly has only raced six times on the grass, but has won five of those – including her last two in Ireland. Yes, she was 8th to Time For Sandals in the Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot, but the ground might have been a bit lively for her and she’s bounced back to win twice since.
She was also supplemented for this, so connections clearly feel she’s ready for another crack at this grade and the Haggas team also won this race last year.
I also think it’s interesting the yard are NOT running More Thunder here, who is probably the best British 6f sprinter at the moment – maybe they feel they can save him for Champions Day (or France) and pin their hopes on Sky Majesty.
I also like last year’s second KIND OF BLUE, who returned to form last time with a close third in the Phoenix Sprint at the Curragh. The Fanshawe yard have a good record here too – winning this with Society Rock and The Tin Man since 2012.
🥇SKY MAJESTY
🥈KIND OF BLUE
🥉LAZZAT
Kempton Horse Racing Tips – Saturday 6th September 2025
1:35 – Kempton: September Stakes (Group 3) Cl1 (3yo+) 1m4f ITV
We can expect the 120-rated Giavellotto to make a race of it, but really this should be going to KALPANA – who took this race last year before having a big autumn.
She went onto land the Fillies and Mares Stakes on Champions Day at Ascot – however, this year her target will be the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe in early October.
Kalpana is already one of the favourites for Europe’s richest middle-distance race at Longchamp – so anything but a win here will be needed if they want to keep that dream alive.
She was last seen running a blinder to be second in the King George and that’s the best form on offer here.
Giavellotto, who is rated 120 (only 2lbs less than Kalpana) certainly won’t be a pushover and is 2-2 on the AW. He’ll also get Oisin Murphy riding – but Kalpana will get a handy 3lbs from the second favourite and that could be difference.
🥇KALPANA
🥈GIAVELLOTTO
🥉MEYDAAN
2:05 – Kempton: Unibet London Mile Series Final Handicap Cl2 (3yo+) 1m ITV
Sky Safari is 3-3 on the AW and will be popular for the James Fanshawe yard here – especially with Oisin Murphy booked to ride.
Dragon Icon is another to note for the Roger Varian team that have their horses in better form and is also a course winner.
But we’ve also got the last two winners of this race back – HELM ROCK and WHITCOMBE ROCKSTAR.
The former took this in 2023 off 94 and is now rated 83, so 11lbs lower and also has a 3lb claimer on here – so 14lbs better off. He also comes here off a wind op and a win at Haydock in June. Plus the Kubler yard have had a few winners this week too.
Whitcombe Rocker was last year’s winner and is only 2lbs higher this time. Loves the AW, being 5-from-9 on it – with all of those wins also coming here at Kempton.
🥇HELM ROCK (e/w)
🥈WHITCOMBE ROCKSTAR
🥉DRAGON ICON
Ascot Horse Racing Tips – Saturday 6th September 2025
2:40 – Ascot Handicap Cl2 (3yo+) 7f ITV
With seven of the last 10 winners ridden by a claiming jockey – only King’s Lynn and Telemark will be trying to continue this stat.
Darkness did us a favour a few weeks back – winning at 25/1 at Goodwood so it’s hard to not mention ‘Darkness my old friend’ ……as Simon and Garfunkel once sang.
He’s up 6lbs this time and this David O’Meara runner came with a late run that day to suggest there is more to come. They only niggle is that he’s run here at Ascot twice and been unplaced both times. But is still expected to go well.
But we’ve got another O’Meara runner going here that catches my eye too – SWORD. This 4 year-old was last at Newcastle in his most recent race – but is probably a bit better on the turf. He was sent off favourite the time before that at Chepstow but that was over 1m.
However, the time before was an excellent third here at Ascot in the International Handicap to Two Tribes (watch below), who went into win the Stewards’ Cup at Goodwood. He’s only a pound higher here and at 25/1 could outrun those odds.
Thunder Rock is another to note at a big price – was down the field at Newcastle last time out but is a better horse on the grass (4 wins) and has been freshened up with 118 days off too.
🥇SWORD (e/w)
🥈TELEMARK
🥉THUNDER ROAR / DARKNESS
3:15 – Ascot: Silent Pool Gin Handicap Cl2 (3yo) 1m4f ITV
Shergar Cup winner Tenability can be expected to be finishing fast again and should have more to come with only five career runs – and is only up 4lbs here, plus the Haggas team have won three of the last four.
Daiquiri Bay stayed on well to be third the last day at York in a hot handicap over 1m6f and the drop back to 1m4f will suit this Alan King runner.
But it was hard to not be impressed with PUSH THE LIMIT’s win last time out at Goodwood – a win that was even better as the horse was almost wiped out by another runner turning in.
Up 7lbs for that win looks fair and the third Bulletin has won since. He’s only had four career runs too, so this Ralph Beckett runner looks the sort to have more to come.
🥇PUSH THE LIMIT
🥈DAIQUIRI BAY
🥉TENABILITY
