Ahead of Sunday’s Steel City Derby, we have the Sheffield Wednesday Vs Sheffield United preview, prediction, team news and predicted lineups.
Sheffield Wednesday Vs Sheffield United Preview
Sheffield Wednesday will be buzzing after their incredible comeback win against Norwich during the week. The Owls came from 2-0 down to win 3-2 at Carrow Road.
Michael Ihiekwe, Josh Windass and Djeidi Gassama netted in a 12-minute spell for the Yorkshire side. That win was the second in succession on the road for Danny Rohl’s men.
Last Saturday, relegation-threatened Plymouth were slain 3-0 at Home Park. Now, Wednesday can start to focus upon a late playoff push.
At the time of writing, the Owls are five points adrift of sixth place ahead of this weekend’s action. A win against their bitter rivals will really get the Hillsborough faithful believing that promotion is still possible.
However, Wednesday haven’t won a Steel City Derby on home turf since 2012. Chris O’Grady scored the only goal of the game in front of 36,000 supporters.

Sheffield United head into Sunday’s derby off the back of a 1-1 draw against Bristol City. The Blades conceded in second-half injury time to miss out on a vital win.
Chris Wilder’s side are now two points of the EFL Championship summit going into the match. That distance could be greater should Leeds beat QPR on Saturday.
Nonetheless, Wilder will need to prepare his troops for battle against their arch nemesis. In the reverse fixture, Tyrese Campbell scored the only goal of the game at Bramall Lane.
That in itself will surely fire up the United players as they travel across the city this weekend. The last meeting at Hillsborough in 2019 ended in a 0-0 draw.
Ahead of the match, the best football betting sites in the UK price Wednesday as the slight 8/5 favourites. United are 19/10 with the draw 47/20.
Sheffield Wednesday Vs Sheffield United Team News
Stuart Armstrong, Di’Shon Bernard, Anthony Musaba, Yan Valery and Akin Famewo are all missing for Sheffield Wednesday this weekend.
Danny Rohl will be hoping that club stalwart Barry Bannan is fit to start. The midfielder was forced off against Norwich but the general feeling is that he’ll be able to feature from the off.
Meanwhile, Sheffield United will be without Rhys Norrington-Davies, Oliver Arblaster and Tom Davies. There are also injury doubts regarding Harry Clarke and Chelsea loanee Alfie Gilchrist.
There was a huge scare in the midweek clash when in-form goal-getter Tyrese Campbell appeared to suffer a contact injury. However, it was confirmed he suffered a dead leg and will be fit to start.
Sheffield Wednesday Vs Sheffield United Prediction
Interestingly, the last time Sheffield United done the double over Sheffield Wednesday was in the 2005/06 season. A campaign in which the Blades got promoted to the Premier League.
Will history repeat itself? Only time will tell. United will certainly fancy their chances but like any derby, the Steel City clash is often unpredictable.
Something of which we are predicting is for the game to be a very tight affair. Notably, three of the last four clashes have ended goalless.
With that in mind, we are going to sit on the fence and go for a low-scoring stalemate.
Prediction: Sheffield Wednesday 1-1 Sheffield United
