Racing League Southwell Horse Racing Tips – Thursday 28th August 2025Â
As the Racing League plays out their final 2025 fixture at Southwell on Thursday – the table sees London and the South leading the way with 738 points.
With the East in second with 613 points and Scotland in third with 552 points.
Jockey Richard Kingscote has been the big points scorer for London and the South (299).
Captained by ITV Racing’s Matt Chapman, all eyes will be on London and the South to see if they can finish the job.

A typical tricky opening for the Southwell horse tips in the first, with recent winner Wolverhampton winner Percy Jones, for the in-form Mark Loughane yard, respected.
As is the only CD winner in the field Sugarloaf Lenny. Don’t forget this is on the AW track, so any experience of the track a plus.
But the call is SPIRIT OF JURA, who also has proven form here. She’s 2-from-2 at the course, with wins in January and April.
The selection has since won at Hamilton too (Aug) and is only 6lbs higher. The winning rider there Archie Young is also back in the plate and claims 5lbs and wasn’t disgraced (3rd) in a better race at HQ last time.

🥈SUGARLOAF LENNY
🥉PERCY JONES

The last two winners of this race have strangely come from stall 13 and we’ve also got the 2023 winning horse in YAASER, who weirdly has gate 13 again this year.
This Jim Goldie runner is rated 6lbs higher than that 2023 success.
But has been dropped a pound since his last Ayr 4th and having only had five runs on the AW (1 win) can have more to come on this surface.
Of the rest, the Roger Varian yard have a solid 25% SR with their runners at the track and run Kosometsuke.
While two other proven CD winners Noodle Mission, who won this last year and is 3lbs lower this time, and Bajan Bandit are also respected.

🥈KOSOMETSUKE
🥉NOODLE MISSION

CD winner True Promise catches the eye after a few months off to freshen up and is looking well-handicapped off 81 (8lbs lower than his last win).
Former Royal Ascot Wokingham winner Rohaan will catch the eye of punters too – is not the force of old – but is another that is well-handicapped on old form if able to bounce back.
But a chance is taken on DAPPER VALLEY, who is having his first run for the James Owen yard.
Yes, he’s lost his way a bit of late, but is now 12lbs below his last winning mark and the switch of stables could help.
The Owen team have a top SR with their 4+ year-olds here (26%) and so he could be some value with the horse racing betting sites.
🥇DAPPER VALLEY
🥈TRUE PROMISE
🥉ROHAAN

Miller Spirit and Dreams Adozen look the value calls.
But the Charlie Johnston runner ARTISAN DANCER has been running well in better races than this and is the call.
He was third at the Shergar Cup earlier this month and backed that up with a running-on second at York last week.
Gets in here off the same rating (81) and Andrew Mullen, who was on last time, continues in the saddle.
🥇ARTISAN DANCER
🥈MILLER SPIRIT
🥉DREAMS ADOZEN

Another super hard puzzle to unravel here with cases to be made for most.
The consistent Transparent is sure to be in the mix and is a proven CD winner here at Southwell too.
The Clive Cox yard is going well at the moment and run the Saffie Osborne-ridden Sky Advocate.
But a chance is taken on the James Owen runner – OCEAN ODYSSEY, who didn’t seem to stay the 1m 1f trip last time at Musselburgh.
Before that though won well over this course and distance at the start of the month (4 3/4 lengths). Despite being rated 12lbs higher seems to do well here.
Is 2-2 at the track, having won here back in April by six lengths too. While draw 14 looks okay too with the last two winners coming from gates 11 and 12.
🥇OCEAN ODYSSEY
🥈SKY ADVOCATE
🥉TRANSPARENT

Liberty Coach looks to be running into form after an improved third at Chelmsford the last day and that was only her first try on the AW.
CD winner Charmaine has a consistent profile and can go well for the James Fanshawe camp too.
But the call is to stick with last year’s winner FANTASY BELIEVER, who ran will in another Racing League contest at Chepstow last time (3rd).
He’s off the same mark here (90) and is only 3lbs higher than when winning this last year. Saffie Osborne, who rode last year, is also back in the plate.
🥇FANTASY BELIEVER
🥈CHARMAINE
🥉LIBERTY COACH

Things don’t get much easier in the final Racing League race of the 2025 series.
George Boughey has won the last two runnings but doesn’t have a runner. However, these two winners came from stalls 10 and 12.
With that in mind, the Kevin Ryan-trained AGAINST THE WIND, from gate 12, looks interesting.
This 3 year-old was a nice winner over CD last time out and even though he’s 9lbs higher is now 2-2 on the AW. And looks the sort to have more in the locker.
Of the rest, another drawn high is Northern Spirit (13) and comes here having won last time too. He’s up 5lbs for that win but connections are offsetting that with Shay Farmer’s 7lb claim.
Regal Envoy can be given a shout too. With the William Knight team having a solid 33% SR with their 4+ year-old at the track.
🥇AGAINST THE WIND
🥈NORTHERN SPIRIT
🥉REGAL ENVOY
