Early season stats suggest that England captain and Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane could be on his way to winning the 2026 Ballon d’Or.
Stats Suggest Harry Kane Could Win Ballon d’Or
Harry Kane has started the 2025-26 season in blistering form, and after featuring for a total of just 742 minutes for Bayern Munich, he has already amassed 20 goal involvements.
In doing so, he has become the quickest player in history from Europe’s top five leagues to reach 20 goal involvements across all competitions at the start of a season.
It beats the record previously set by Lionel Messi in 2011-12 by seven minutes.
Incredibly, that was the season Messi scored 73 goals and provided 32 assists in 60 games for Barcelona, as the Argentine went on to lift his fourth Ballon d’Or at the end of the campaign.
Could this suggest that Kane is on his way to winning the 2026 Ballon d’Or?
If he does, he’d be the first Englishman to win the award since Michael Owen in 2001.

In total, Kane has 17 goals and three assists for the Bavarians in nine appearances this term.
That’s approximately 2.22 goal contributions per game. Although unlikely, if he carries on at the same rate, avoids injury and Bayern make it to the latter stages of each cup competition, he could end the season with over 90 goals and assists for his club.
The 32-year-old reached the 20-goal contribution mark with a brace vs Pafos on Tuesday.
He also scored for England in their 5-0 World Cup qualifying win over Serbia last month.
It follows on from Kane becoming the highest-scoring Englishman in Champions League history last term, a record previously held by ex-Manchester United star Wayne Rooney.
Players To Reach 20 Goal Contributions In Fewest Minutes
Not only does Kane feature at the top of the list of players to reach 20 goal contributions in the fewest minutes, but he also comes in at fourth and fifth for his starts in 2020-21 and 2024-25.
Messi features on more than one occasion, too. The Inter Miami and Argentina forward is in second place for his 2011-12 Ballon d’Or-winning season and in third for his 2016-17 season.
Additionally, Erling Haaland (2022-23) is in seventh place, Kylian Mbappe (2018-19) featured in ninth, and Cristiano Ronaldo’s best start (2014-15) sneaks him into 10th position.
