As the Glorious Goodwood Meeting moves into Saturday – the Stewards’ Cup is one of the final day highlights, but with a maximum of 28 runners trying to find the winner is not easy. Which is where the Stewards’ Cup trends and stats come into play as we can try and whittle down the big field.
These include a HUGE age trend that is showing a 95% return in the last 22 runnings – which we can apply to the final runners and hopefully rule these out.
Stewards’ Cup Trends Point To Horses Aged 6 Or Younger
The key age Stewards’ Cup trend is – that has seen a massive 95% (21 of the last 22) of winners in recent years – is to look for horses aged 6 or younger.
Okay, of the 28 field – a of horses will still be in this age bracket – but it’s still a stat that will knockout EIGHT of the runners.
This will then leave us with 20 horses to whittle down – but the good news is there are other key stats to help here.
Yes, in 2017 Lancelot Du Lac won aged 7, but he’s the only one aged 7+ to land the spoils since 1996.
The eight horses aged 7 or older this year are below.
Including two-time winner of the race Commanche Falls and last year’s hero Get It, who is well-fancied with the horse racing betting sites for a repeat win.
- Strike Red (7)
- Saint Lawrence (7)
- Vadream (7)
- Commanche Falls (8)
- Twilight Jet (7)
- Jordan Electrics (9)
- Get It (7)
- Apollo One (7)
We could also take this age trend a tiny bit further as 23 of the last 27 winners were aged between 4-6.
Meaning any 3 year-olds might be up against it – but this stat might be turning as in the last 10 runnings we’ve seen three winning 3 year-olds.
What About The Stewards’ Cup Draw?
Now with there being 28 runners, then it goes without saying – the bulk of the runners will have a double-figure draw.
Only nine horses won’t.
Therefore, when we tell you that 16 of the last 20 winners came from stalls 10+ – this might not really tell us much.
However, it’s still a fair 80% return – and seven of the last eight winners hailed from stalls 15+.
With the last five winners coming from gates 28, 15, 19, 23 and 17.
While seven of the top 8 finishers last year also all started in a double-figure berth.
The horses draw in single figures are.
- 1 Completely Random
- 2 Jordan Electrics
- 3 Orazio
- 4 Hammer the Hammer
- 5 Vadream
- 6 Purosangue
- 7 Commanche Falls
- 8 Elmonjed
- 9 Germanic
Seven Of The Last Eight Winners Carried 9st 1lb Or More In Weight
Being a handicap, then weight carried is also worth a look.
In recent years, the race has seen seven of the last eight winners carry 9st 1lbs or more – with only Aberama Gold in 2023 winning with less (8-13).
Which is suggesting this prize is now being targeted by the slightly better horses.
Last year’s winner Get It lumped 9st 5lbs and this year will try again but with 9st 9lbs.
Summerghand won with 9st 10lbs in 2020 and Hoof It won with a massive 10st in 2011.
But before that you have to go back to 1993 when King’s Signet carried 9st 10lbs.
Suggesting the two top-weights – Apollo One and Annaf, who both have 9st 12lbs, might do well to win.

Last Year’s Stewards’ Cup Winner Get It Back For More
This year’s race also sees two recent winners back for more.
The 2021 and 2022 winner Commanche Falls returns aged 8 and last year’s hero Get It is also back.
But prior to two Commanche Falls on the bounce – you have to go back to Sky Diver in 1967/68 to find the next ‘back-to-back’ Stewards’ Cup winner.
Note Any William Haggas, Charles Hills or Michael Dods Runners
If you like the trainer angle into races, then you should certainly note any William Haggas, Charles Hills or Michael Dods runners.
This is because in the last 17 runnings, this trio have won six (35%) – two each.
They all have runners again in 2025 too. With Haggas having Elmonjed, Hills Orazio and Dods Commanche Falls.
Favourites Don’t Have Bad Record
Considering the competitive nature of the race, the Stewards’ Cup record for favourites is not too bad.
With six of the last 22 winning (27%) – while 50% of the last 22 have also been placed.
This year’s market leader could be the William Haggas-trained Elmonjed.
Which Horses Tick The Most Stewards’ Cup Trends?
