Timothy Weah has recreated his father George Weah’s iconic magazine cover after signing for Marseille.
The 25-year-old has joined Marseille on loan from Serie A side Juventus. He will sign for the French club permanently at the end of the season if certain conditions are met.
Juventus will receive a loan fee of €1 million (£870,000), while the obligatory transfer would fetch them an additional €14.4 million (£12.5 million). There are also around €3 million (£2.6 million) in bonuses, with Juve standing to get a 15% cut of the future sale fee.
George Weah Made His Marseille Debut on Onze Mondial
The only African Ballon d’Or winner in history, George Weah scored his career’s final European move in 2000. He moved from Manchester City to Marseille, joining on a free.
Having already played for Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), Weah’s switch to their arch-rivals, Marseille, generated quite the buzz. French football magazine Onze Mondial cashed in on the hype and put George Weah on the magazine cover. Weah’s striking pose in Marseille’s retro kit became an instant classic.

Timothy Weah Announced Marseille Move By Recreating George Weah Magazine Cover
After completing the medical, Timothy Weah officially confirmed his Marseille switch on Instagram.
He posted an image of himself on the front page of French football magazine Onze Mondial, recreating George Weah’s pose from 2000.
The caption accompanying the image read:
“MARSEILLE BABY
“To the incredible OM supporters, From the bottom of my heart, Thank you. The welcome you gave me was incredible, warm, passionate, and full of love. I am deeply touched. To be honest, I don’t think I deserve all of this yet. I haven’t earned your respect on the pitch yet…not yet. But I promise you one thing: I will fight for this club with all my might. I will fight for this jersey, for this city, and for each and every one of you who believes in me”

He added:
“I would like to express my gratitude to president Pablo Longoria, Medhi Benatia and coach Roberto De Zerbi for the trust they have placed in me and for giving me the opportunity to join this magnificent team. Thank you for believing in me and welcoming me into this new family. I can’t wait to give the best of myself to honor this trust and share great moments with you and our supporters.
“Let’s go into battle together.”
He concluded his statement by writing:
“Go OM.”
George Weah joined Marseille with a big reputation, but he could not live up to expectations. In his only season at the club (2000/01), he scored five goals and provided two assists in 20 games across competitions.
Timothy will be hoping to fare a lot better than his legendary father at Marseille, who are 18/1 with betting sites to win Ligue 1. His preparation and performances could also have a bearing on the USMNT’s World Cup hopes next year.
