Rodrygo has reportedly decided to stay at Real Madrid, dealing a major blow to Tottenham Hotspur’s chances of signing Manchester City star Savinho.
Having lost captain Heung-min Son, Tottenham are eager to bolster their attack in the final days of the summer transfer window.
Man City winger Savinho is reportedly at the top of their list. However, the Cityzens, who are 5/1 with football betting sites to win the Premier League, are unlikely to sell without signing a replacement.
Rodrygo to Continue at Real Madrid
Rodrygo’s future at Real Madrid has long been up in the air. According to MARCA, Rodrygo was unhappy with his role in the team under Carlo Ancelotti last season, and wanted a more prominent presence under Xabi Alonso.
The Spanish coach did not give Rodrygo much game time at the FIFA Club World Cup and left him out of the starting XI in the LaLiga opener against CA Osasuna.
Despite limiting his involvement, Alonso sent a clear message to Rodrygo and his teammates. He said he depended on every player and expected 100% commitment from them all.

On Sunday, Real Madrid faced Real Oviedo in their second LaLiga game of the season, and Rodrygo got himself a place in the starting XI. He played for over 60 minutes, testing the goalkeeper twice from four shots.
Spanish outlet Diario AS has claimed that the game against Real Oviedo has been decisive for Rodrygo’s Real Madrid future. The 24-year-old is now determined to stay at Real Madrid and fight for his place under Alonso.
Savinho to Tottenham Deal Hits Massive Roadblock
Premier League giants Manchester City had been eyeing a move for Rodrygo all summer. Now, with the Brazilian committing to stay in Spain, the Man City move looks unlikely. Without signing Rodrygo, Man City are not likely to sell Savinho this summer.
Since Savinho still has four years remaining on his contract, Tottenham are at Man City’s mercy. Pep Guardiola’s side reportedly value Savinho at £60 million. Spurs are supposedly prepared to meet it while the player is also open to moving to north London. But without a backup for the Brazilian, the Citizens are unlikely to compromise their squad depth.
A Period Disappointment for Tottenham
Tottenham Hotspur has done some decent business this summer, signing the like of Mohammed Kudus, Mathys Tel, and Kevin Danso.
But in the last few days, they have missed out on some top targets. First, they reportedly agreed personal terms with Morgan Gibbs-White. But Nottingham Forest tied him down to a new contract.

Then, they emerged as the leaders in the race for Eberechi Eze. But they once again failed to seal the deal, with Arsenal prizing the Englishman away right at the end.
Now, if Rodrygo closes the door to his switch to Man City, Tottenham may be in for another disappointment.
Spurs, who are second place in the Premier League rankings, return to action with a clash against Bournemouth on Saturday.
