Trent Alexander-Arnold

Manchester United are the shock early favourites to sign Trent Alexander-Arnold.

According to reports, Alexander-Arnold has been told to leave Real Madrid by Alvaro Arbeloa, just seven months after joining from Liverpool as a free agent.

The right-back has endured a difficult stint in LaLiga and battled with several fitness issues.

The turmoil caused by Xabi Alonso’s recent dismissal has also worsened his situation, meaning a Premier League return is now on the cards.

Trent Alexander-Arnold Next Club Odds

Alexander-Arnold has started just five league games this season, and speculation is rife over his future at the Bernabeu.

If he has indeed been instructed to find a new club, the 27-year-old would be targeted by multiple elite sides. However, a surprise comeback in England would make the most sense.

No formal approaches have been made, but this hasn’t stopped bookmakers from tipping Old Trafford as a likely destination, regardless of the defender’s Merseyside roots.

Without further ado, here is the full list of next club odds – produced at the time of writing.

  • Manchester United – 4/1
  • Newcastle – 4/1
  • Liverpool – 15/2
  • Bayern Munich – 12/1
  • Arsenal – 16/1
  • Tottenham – 18/1
  • Aston Villa – 20/1

Both Manchester United and Newcastle are currently in pole position at 4/1, while the likes of Liverpool, Bayern Munich (12/1) and Arsenal (16/1) are comfortably adrift.

Alexander-Arnold looked to have burned his bridges at Anfield after itching to leave for Madrid. Therefore, a return to his boyhood club, despite the 15/2 odds, can safely be ruled out.

Tottenham (18/1) and Aston Villa (20/1) find themselves on the fringes, meanwhile, with neither club likely to splash the cash on a new right-back.

Alexander-Arnold would be desperate for regular football. Man United and Newcastle would certainly be able to tick that box, keeping them at the forefront of the betting.

Intriguingly, United are linked with Cole Palmer, but the odds suggest that transfer is unlikely.

Will Alexander-Arnold Leave Real Madrid?

According to Spanish outlet El Nacional, Arbeola advised Alexander-Arnold to seek out a move for his own benefit.

The player has been told that he does not feature in future plans, in a football-related decision.

Alexander-Arnold’s representatives have therefore begun sounding out possible new clubs ahead of a summer transfer.

Officials at the Bernabeu have pointed to his poor defensive contributions and underwhelming attacking end product, signalling their willingness to move him on.

This is even more damning in light of Madrid spending £10million to bring forward his transfer before the Club World Cup in June.

He sustained a hamstring injury shortly after, before picking up another injury setback last month. Alexander-Arnold is yet to return to full fitness.
