Brazil Star Vinicius Junior Reacts to Argentina Thrashing

Brazil superstar Vinicius Junior has reacted to the 4-1 drubbing against Argentina, urging the five-time winners to improve before the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Brazil succumbed to an embarrassing 4-1 defeat to Argentina in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier on Tuesday night, 25 March. The victory in Buenos Aires allowed La Albiceleste to become the first CONMEBOL team to qualify for the 2026 World Cup. O Selecao, meanwhile, dropped to fourth place in the confederation rankings, going 10 points behind Lionel Messi’s team.

Vinicius Junior Reacts as Argentina Thrash Brazil in World Cup Qualifier

Speaking to ESPN after the game, Vinicius Junior lamented an abysmal team performance.

Today we arrive in the locker room and there’s not much to talk about, just thinking about what we did on the field, everyone was very bad, we played badly, and Argentina played an excellent match,” said the Real Madrid forward.

He then urged Brazil to turn their fortunes around, pleading that he did not want another heartbreak in next year’s FIFA World Cup.

We have to rethink everything we’ve been doing, because the demands will come; the people want us to win. The World Cup is only a year away, and I’ve already played in a World Cup, and I don’t want to lose again.

I believe we have to do a lot of different things and take the good things we’ve been doing in the qualifiers to build a squad. Everyone knows how difficult it is to play with this shirt, but we have to improve, keep our heads held high because we are Brazilians and we never give up. We’re going to qualify for the World Cup and try to do everything we can for our country.”

Vinicius Junior, who scored an injury-time winner against Colombia in the previous World Cup qualifier, cut a frustrating figure in the 4-1 defeat against Argentina. The 25-year-old neither created a chance nor registered a shot. He also committed two fouls and misplaced all three attempted crosses.

The 2024 Ballon d’Or runner-up did carry the ball with vigour, completing seven duels — the most in the game — but the end product was missing.
