Why Was Lerone Murphy Snubbed Of Alexander Volkanovski Clash?
Following his sensational knockout win over Aaron Pico, it looked for a while like Lerone Murphy was getting the next UFC Featherweight Title shot.
At one stage, it was even being reported that Alexander Volkanovski vs Lerone Murphy was confirmed, but that is no longer the case. Instead, Murphy will have to bide his time and wait for his 145-pound title shot.
He may well be next in line against the Volkanovski vs Evloev winner in the UFC 323 main event, but will have to endure time on the sidelines to see how the title picture plays out.
He could of course get back in the octagon in the meantime for some type of final eliminator. Fights against the #2 ranked Diego Lopes or #3 ranked Yair Rodriguez make sense for the English MMA star next, as does a clash with former bantamweight king Aljamain Sterling.
Who Will The Volkanovski vs Evloev Favourite Be?
With no official odds released yet, the Alexander Volkanovski vs Movsar Evloev betting favourite is currently unknown.
However, as the reigning UFC Featherweight Champion and MMA legend, price-setters will likely list ‘The Great’ as a marginal favourite against the challenger for their 145-pound title clash.
That being said, given the fact Evloev is undefeated, he may well go in as the pre-fight favourite. It remains to be seen what bookmakers think of this match up, which goes down in the UFC 323 main event on December 6.
Volkanovski bounced back to win the UFC Featherweight Title last time out against Diego Lopes, following two successive defeats to Islam Makhachev and Ilia Topuria.
After becoming a two-time UFC Featherweight Champion, the Australian returned to the top 10 UFC pound-for-pound rankings, now placed at #7. A successful defence over the 19-0 Evloev here could place him even further up that list.
UFC 323 will be no easy task for ‘The Great’ however, with Movsar Evloev perhaps even the pre-fight favourite.
Time will tell how Volkanovski vs Evloev plays out in the UFC 323 main event at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on December 6.
