Luis Suarez Spits at Seattle Staff

Inter Miami star Luis Suarez appeared to spit at a Seattle Sounders staff member after his team’s defeat in the Leagues Cup final.

Suarez delivered an underwhelming performance as Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami lost 3-0 to Seattle on Sunday.

Osaze De Rosario (26′), Alex Roldan (84′), and Paul Rothrock (89′) scored for the Sounders.

On Wednesday, Inter Miami claimed a 3-1 victory over 10-man Orlando City in the Leagues Cup semi-final. Lionel Messi led from the front, scoring two goals to secure a comeback win for the Herons.

In the final, however, Messi was well below his unplayable best. Seattle Sounders did their homework on the Argentine, and it paid off handsomely.

The Argentine had five shots, but none of them landed on target. He created just one chance and missed a big opportunity to score in the 50th minute, blasting his shot over the bar from close range.

Messi, who received support from Zlatan Ibrahimovic after PSG beat Inter Miami in the Club World Cup, also struggled to get past his markers, completing just one of his six attempted duels.

Luis Suarez relies heavily on the service from Messi. And with Messi neutralised, the Uruguayan striker failed to make any impact over the course of the game. He created a couple of chances, but could not put pressure on the Seattle backline. His only attempted shot did not land on target, and he lost three of four ground duels.

Inter Miami Players Clash With Seattle Sounders After Cup Defeat

Despite their superstars failing to impress, Inter Miami were still in the game until the 82nd minute when Yannick Bright conceded a penalty. Amid furious protests from Miami players, Alex Roldan scored from the penalty spot to make it 2-0 for Seattle. In the 89th minute, Roldan turned provider, as he assisted Paul Rothrock for the third goal of the game.

After the final whistle blew, a violent fight broke out between Inter Miami and Seattle Sounders. From substitutes to staff members, many participated in the fight. Shirts were grabbed, players shoved each other, and even punches flew during the chaotic brawl.

While captain Lionel Messi distanced himself from the unpleasantness, Suarez was at the heart of it all.

After clashing hard with the players, Suarez appeared to spit at a Seattle Sounders staff member. The victim did not respond to Suarez’s action and retreated.

Controversy has followed Suarez pretty much all throughout his career. He blatantly used his hand on the goalline to deny Ghana at the 2010 FIFA World Cup. The same year, he bit PSV Eindhoven’s Otman Bakkal while playing for Ajax.

In 2013, Suarez got a 10-match ban for biting Chelsea player Branislav Ivanovic during a Premier League match. The following year, he was slapped with a four-match suspension for biting Giorgio Chiellini during a 2014 FIFA World Cup match.

The Uruguayan could now face spell on the sidelines for his latest infraction.
