West Ham travel to Bournemouth on Saturday, but history suggests they won’t emerge victorious from their trip to the South Coast.

It’s been a dreadful start to the season for West Ham.

The Irons picked up just one win in their first nine games, and looked to be in absolute free-fall.

West Ham’s January transfer targets list had grown long thanks to the need to strengthen throughout the squad.

But after manager Graham Potter was sacked and replaced with Nuno Esprito Santo, the situation has improved.

Back-to-back wins in their last two games, against Newcastle and Burnley, have seen them move closer to safety.

Below 17th-placed Burnley on goal difference alone, a win this weekend could see them climb as high as 14th.

But that doesn’t look likely, thanks to a worrying stat.

West Ham Manager Nuno Espirito Santo Has Never Beaten Iraola

This weekend’s trip to Bournemouth was already a daunting one for West Ham.

The Cherries have made a strong start to the campaign, and sit ninth in thew table.

They are just one point off the Champions League places, and only four below second-placed Manchester City.

Star-man Antoine Semenyo has attracted interest from across the league after impressing so far, with a Manchester club favourites to sign Semenyo.

The fact that the Ghanaian international is an injury doubt for this weekend should encourage West Ham.

Yet there is another reason for their fans to be worried ahead of Saturday.

Irons boss Nuno Espirito Santo has faced Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola four times in the Premier League.

But he is yet to win against the Spaniard, with two draws and two losses.

Among those defeats was a 5-0 thrashing while he was in charge of Nottingham Forest.

Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola has had the better of Nuno Espirito Santo so far.

The only manager Nuno has faced more times in the Premier League without beating is former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp.

Bournemouth are comfortable favourites with most football betting sites, at around 4/6.

And with Nuno’s awful record against Iraola, it looks like West Ham are already beaten.

West Ham’s Record Vs Bournemouth Gives Irons Hope

While Hammers boss Nuno may have a woeful track record against Andoni Iraola, West Ham’s head-to-head stats against Bournemouth are much more positive.

The Irons have not tasted defeat at the hands of the Cherries since 2019, and run of nine games.

West Ham have played Bournemouth 20 times, losing just four.

West Ham Bournemouth
West Ham have a decent record against Bournemouth overall.

They have managed eight wins and eight draws from the remaining 16 meetings.

However, the last Premier League win for West Ham against the Cherries was in 2023, which was also their only away victory in seven trips to the Vitality Stadium.

As a result, West Ham fans will be hoping their side can rip up the history books on Saturday.

Victory would almost certainly move them out of the drop zone, and ease relegation fears heading into the festive period.
