Despite losing starting quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick to a season-ending injury in Week 1 last season, the Washington Commanders (formerly the Football Team) nearly squeaked into the postseason riding the unimpressive trio of Taylor Heinicke, Garrett Gilbert, and Kyle Allen. Ron Rivera’s crew will try to wash off the stench of an injury-plagued 2021 campaign and fight for the NFC East crown with a new face under center during the 2022 NFL schedule.

Former Philadelphia Eagles and Indianapolis Colts quarterback Carson Wentz will be the man in charge of the Commanders offense in 2022. Washington might be feeling a bit queasy about that fact, but the truth is Wentz will be the best starting quarterback this franchise has entered a season with since Kirk Cousins in 2017 (sorry, Washington fans).

The good news is Wentz will have plenty of talent surrounding him with Antonio Gibson, J.D. McKissic, Terry McLaurin, Curtis Samuel, and rookie WR Jahan Dotson out of Penn State. With a healthier offensive line and a fresh fan base behind him, there’s no reason why the former Pro Bowler can’t lead the Commanders to a winning record this season.

A friendly schedule should help the cause, and Washington is projected to have one of the easiest in the NFL this year as a member of the lowly NFC East.
