New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll has liked what he’s seen out of rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart. See what Daboll had to say about the team’s first-round pick.

Brian Daboll On Jaxson Dart

A lot of pressure is on Dart heading into the 2025 season. Though not slated to start for the Giants, Dart is viewed as the franchise’s future at the quarterback position.

After drafting Penn State’s Abdul Carter with the No. 3 pick, the Giants traded back into the first round to select Dart.

The Giants traded the No. 34 pick, the No. 99 pick, and a 2026 third-round pick to the Houston Texans for the No. 25 pick.

New York used their second first-round pick on the Ole Miss quarterback.

Daboll has only been able to judge Dart on his work at OTAs. According to Daboll, the early returns have been promising.

“He’s done excellent picking up information,” Daboll told the media via SNY. “It’s really good to have Russ and Jameis and even Tommy because Tommy has been in this system for a few years here. Kind of the head statesman in terms of that with all the adjustments that take place and the calls. He’s fit right in with those guys. He’s smart. He’s aggressive with the football, which I like. And then the true test will be once we start with live hitting and preseason games and things like that. He’s progressed since he’s been here to where he’s not; he’s made good improvement.”

Will Jaxson Dart Become The Starter In 2025?

It’s a matter of when, not if, Dart will play in a regular season game.

Dart is competing for the starting position with Russell Wilson, Jameis Winston, and Tommy DeVito.

Wilson is the Giants’ starting quarterback heading into training camp. While many expected Winston to serve as the backup, Dart has been reportedly taking snaps with the second team during OTAs.

If Dart becomes the backup, expect the Giants to look to move Winston before the season.

Daboll faces an interesting dilemma this season. After a 3-14 season, Daboll enters the 2025 campaign on the hot seat.

Daboll needs to win games to save his job, meaning Wilson will probably start the season as the starter.

Because the Giants have the No. 1 hardest schedule in the NFL, wins could be few and far between.

Playing Dart this season to see what you have is in the best interest of the franchise. When will Daboll turn to Dart? Only time will tell.
