Mubadala Citi Open Could Crown Two Maiden Champions Today: Anna Kalinskaya And Alejandro Davidovich Fokina

Anna Kalinskaya and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina could win their first WTA and ATP tour-level titles today at the Mubadala Citi Open in Washington, DC later today. In an odd year at the DC tournament, both have played some of their best tennis of the year en route to today’s final matches.

Anna Kalinskaya

Kalinskaya has not dropped a set this week and has played tremendously well, only to potentially be overshadowed by her dog Bella who has run on the court after her last two wins.  When she is healthy, Kalinskaya is a formidble foe on any day or surface. She enjoys the Washington, DC area and won two junior level titles in the DC area.

She faces a red-hot Leylah Fernandez who has beaten Pegula, Taylor Townsend, and Elena Rybakina in impressive fashion this week.

Alejandro Davidovich Fokina

Fokina has made impressive work of the Americans in his draw over the past two rounds. He came back from the brink of defeat in an emotionally and physically taxing quarterfinal against Taylor Fritz. For those thinking he would not have anything left in the tank, he proved them wrong with a straight set defeat of Ben Shelton.

Alejandro Davidovich Fokina is having an outstanding summer including his late June wedding that he said went too fast. He takes on an always tough opponent and soon-to-be newlywed Alex de Minaur in the final.
