The Rams have locked down their top running back for the foreseeable future.
Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Williams has signed a three-year, $33 million contract extension with the Rams. The deal includes $23 million guaranteed.
The former fifth-round pick was entering the final year of his rookie contract. His 2025 base salary is set to pay him $5.3 million.
Ahead of Rams training camp, there was speculation that Williams might hold out of training camp or hold in and refuse to practice. Williams, 24, did neither, as he showed up to training camp on time and missed zero practices.
At the start of training camp, Williams made his intentions clear: he wanted to remain with the Rams.
“I want to play for the Rams, that’s who I want to stay with, and I know it’ll work out,” Williams told the media via Adam Grosbard.
Since being drafted in the fifth round in 2022, Williams has become the primary back for the Rams. Williams is an absolute workhorse who rarely comes off the field. After being used sporadically in his rookie season, Williams broke out in 2023 with 1,144 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns. The former Notre Dame product also caught 32 receptions for 206 yards and three touchdowns.
Williams had another impressive campaign in 2024: 1,299 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns. Williams also hauled in 34 receptions for 182 yards and two touchdowns.
Williams’ 31 touchdowns from scrimmage over the last two seasons are tied with Detroit’s Jahmyr Gibbs for the most in the NFL during that span.

With the new extension, where does Williams rank among the league’s highest-paid running backs?
Williams’ average annual salary of $11 million is the seventh-highest at the position.
Philadelphia’s Saquon Barkley ($20.6 million), San Francisco’s Christian McCaffrey ($19 million), and Baltimore’s Derrick Henry ($15 million) are the only three running backs with an average annual salary of $15 million or greater.
To put Williams’ $11 million per year into perspective, 30 wide receivers make more money annually than the Rams’ running back.
