Ethan Coen’s last movie is Honey Don’t!, a dark comedy starring Margaret Qualley. Will Coen’s latest movie perform better than his last project? View the box office odds and predictions for Honey Don’t!.

What Is Honey Don’t! About?

Meet Honey O’Donahue (Qualley), a small-town private investigator who wears “click-clacking heels” and drinks heavily.

Honey is tasked with investigating the death of a young girl named Mia Novotny (Kara Petersen). While most of the town believes Mia died in a car accident, Honey learns that Mia was stabbed and then stuffed in the vehicle.

Honey finds a unique pin at the crash site, which leads her to Reverend Drew Devlin, played by Chris Evans. Drew is a charismatic cult leader who has sex with members of his congregation.

Something does not add up, and Honey believes the cult could have played a hand in Mia’s death.

The neo-noir also stars Aubrey Plaza as MG Falcone, Billy Eichner as Mr. Siegfried, Jacnier as Hector Bonner, Kristen Connolly as Honey’s sister, Gabby Beans as Spider, Talia Ryder as Corinne, and Charlie Day as Marty Metakawich.

Coen directed Honey Don’t! from a screenplay he co-wrote with his wife and fellow screenwriter, Tricia Cooke. Coen is best known for his collaborations with his brother, Joel Coen. The Coen Brothers have won four Oscars, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Adapted Screenplay for No Country for Old Men.

Focus Features will release Honey Dont! in theaters on August 22, 2025.

Honey Don’t! Opening Weekend Box Office: Domestic Odds
Less than $3 million -270
$3-3.5 million +614
$2.5 million +567

Odds via Polymarket on 8/20/25 at 6 p.m. ET

Don’t expect Honey Don’t! to be a huge financial hit.

Tracking estimates have Honey Don’t opening between $3 million and $4 million. Polymarket set the odds of Coen’s movie opening to less than $3 million at -270.

Coen’s last solo directorial effort, 2024’s Drive-Away Dolls, opened to $2.4 million at the domestic box office.

Unfortunately for Coen, Honey Don’t!’s opening might mirror that $2.4 million haul of Drive-Away Dolls.

With Honey Don’t! projected to struggle, Weapons should clean up again and be the No. 1 movie at the domestic box office for a third straight weekend. Zach Cregger’s horror is a certified hit, with a $161.8 million gross at the box office so far.

By the time its theatrical run ends, Weapons will have made over $200 million.

Freakier Friday and KPop Demon Hunters, the latter going to theaters for a singalong version, should also do good business this weekend.
