Dallas Cowboys linebacker Micah Parsons (11) drops back.

In a deal that will send shockwaves throughout the NFL, the Dallas Cowboys are trading All-Pro edge rusher Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers.

Cowboys Trade Micah Parsons To Packers

After an offseason full of public scrutiny and contract disputes, Jerry Jones finally said, “Enough’s enough.”

Per the NFL Network’s Insiders, the Cowboys are sending Parsons to the Packers for two first-round picks and defensive tackle Kenny Clark.

Parsons and the Packers have agreed to terms on a four-year, $188 million deal with $136 million guaranteed. Parsons is now the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history with an average annual salary of $47 million.

Parsons released a lengthy statement on his social media, thanking the Cowboys’ fans for their support.

“Thank you, Cowboys Nation, for every cheer, every moment, and every ounce of love you showed me,” Parsons wrote. “Wearing the star has been the honor of my life.”

Earlier Thursday, ESPN reported that the Cowboys were willing to listen to trade offers for Parsons for the first time all offseason. The Packers moved quickly and paid a premium to acquire Parsons, who is one of the best defensive players in football.

What Now For The Cowboys And Packers?

The public feud between Jones and Parsons is over for now. Jones reportedly offered Parsons a contract earlier this offseason that would have made him the highest-paid defensive player in football. The rumored contract was a five-year extension worth $40.5 million per year.

Jones thought he had an agreement with Parsons, but the All-Pro defender eventually backed out. Jones blames Parsons’ agent, David Mulugheta, for thwarting the deal.

Mulugheta did get his client a contract that made him the highest-paid defensive player in football. However, it’s from the Green Bay Packers, not the Dallas Cowboys.

The trade ends Parsons’ time in Dallas, where he ascended into one of the most feared edge rushers in football. Parsons is one of only three players in the NFL to have at least 12 sacks in four of the last five seasons.

Dallas will now turn to Dante Fowler Jr., Sam Williams, James Houston, Marshawn Kneeland, and Donovan Ezeiruaku to replace Parsons’ production off the edge.

For the Packers, they get a 26-year-old game-changer in the prime of his career.

The Packers have not had a player record double-digit sacks since Za’Darius Smith in 2020 with 12.5. Now, Parsons will play with Rashan Gary, Lukas Van Ness, and Kingsley Enagbare.

As fate would have it, the Packers travel to Dallas to play the Cowboys in Week 4 on Sunday Night Football. That game has now been upgraded to must-watch.
