The last time the Lions played the Chiefs, Detroit went into Arrowhead on opening night and stole a 21-20 victory over Kansas City.
Sunday night’s matchup between the two teams should be another nail-biter.
After a no-show against the Packers in Week 1, the Lions’ offense has been rolling. Detroit is the highest-scoring team in the NFL (34.8 points per game) and has scored at least 34 points during this four-game winning streak.
Quarterback Jared Goff will be in the MVP race if he wins this game on Sunday night. Goff leads the league in passing touchdowns (12) and completion percentage (75.2).
Detroit is dealing with several injuries at key positions. Cornerback Terrion Arnold is out for the foreseeable future. Safety Kerby Joseph and tackle Taylor Decker have missed practice all week. Wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown and safety Brian Branch have been limited participants in practice.
Meanwhile, the Chiefs are recovering from an unexpected loss to the Jaguars. Between Patrick Mahomes’ interception for a touchdown and the defense surrendering a game-winning touchdown, the Chiefs are in a bit of a funk.
Regression was expected, especially in one-score games. The Chiefs won an NFL record 11 one-score games in 2024. This season, the Chiefs are 0-3 in one-score games.
Xavier Worthy has injected life into this offense, and Patrick Mahomes continues to use his legs advantageously with a team-leading 190 rushing yards and three touchdowns.
There are eye-opening trends for both teams. Goff and Dan Campbell are 12-2 SU in regular-season night games. The Lions are 15-5-1 ATS in their last 21 games.
Mahomes thrives as a small favorite or underdog. Mahomes is 29-12-1 ATS when a favorite of less than 3 points or an underdog.
Because of the injuries to the Lions, I’ll take the Chiefs to win a close game.
Pick: Chiefs -1 (-120)
Lions vs. Chiefs Prop
Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams was supposed to have a breakout season.
It hasn’t gone according to plan despite the thriving Lions’ offense.
Williams has 11 receptions for 223 yards and one touchdown. Even with game-breaking speed, Williams only has three carries for negative one yard. That changes on Sunday night.
The Chiefs are too good defensively to run a conventional offense. The Lions will need to go into their bag of tricks to move the ball. Williams on an end-around should do the trick.
After a game where he only had 10 yards of total offense, Williams should be more involved offensively against the Chiefs.
Pick: Jameson Williams Over 1.5 Rushing Yards (+120)
