Despite being limited in practice earlier this week, McLaurin won’t suit up this weekend.
Commanders head coach Dan Quinn ruled that McLaurin will miss his fourth consecutive game with a right quad injury.
“We’re just not there yet,” Quinn said to the media about McLaurin’s injury status. “Hopefully it’s sooner than later.”
McLaurin injured his quad in Week 3’s win over the Las Vegas Raiders. McLaurin was a limited participant in Wednesday’s practice, but he sat out on Thursday, adding doubt to a potential return in Week 7.
McLaurin played the first three games of the season after holding out for most of training camp due to a contract dispute.
McLaurin recorded 10 receptions for 149 yards in three games.
The All-Pro receiver has only played two games this season with quarterback Jayden Daniels. The second-year QB missed two games with a knee injury.
Commanders Could Be Down Another Wide Receiver
We have made the following roster moves:
– Signed WR Treylon Burks to the practice squad
– Released WR Tay Martin from the practice squad— Washington Commanders (@Commanders) October 17, 2025
Heading into the season, the Commanders’ top two wide receivers were supposed to be McLaurin and Deebo Samuel.
Samuel has played with a heel injury in the last two games. However, his status for Sunday remains uncertain.
With McLaurin out, Samuel has stepped into the role as the team’s No. 1 receiver. Samuel has 34 receptions for 315 yards and three touchdowns.
The injuries at wide receiver didn’t stop there. The Commanders placed Noah Brown on injured reserve earlier this week.
In need of depth, the Commanders signed wide receiver Treylon Burks to their practice squad. Burks is the former 2022 first-round pick with the Tennessee Titans. Burks has disappointed so far in three seasons, catching 53 passes for 699 yards and one touchdown.
After missing two games, Daniels returned to the starting lineup in Week 6 against the Chicago Bears. Daniels finished 19 of 26 for 211 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception.
The turning point in the game came late in the fourth quarter with the Commanders up 24-22. Daniels and running back Jacory Croskey-Merritt botched their exchange around midfield, and the Bears recovered the fumble.
The Bears then moved the ball into the Commanders’ territory to set up the game-winning field goal by Jake Moody.
The Commanders now turn their attention toward the Dallas Cowboys. Dak Prescott has owned this matchup, with a 6-0 record in Dallas.
The Commanders (3-3) face the Cowboys (2-3-1) at 4:25 p.m. ET on Oct. 19.
