Washington Commanders wide receiver Terry McLaurin has agreed to terms on a contract extension.

Terry McLaurin Signs Contract Extension

The hold-in is over.

Per NFL Network’s Insiders, McLaurin and the Commanders have agreed to a three-year contract extension worth up to $96 million. The deal includes a $30 million signing bonus.

One of the NFL’s longest-running contract disputes is now over.

Before training camp, McLaurin ripped the Commanders for the lack of a contract extension.

“I’ve been pretty frustrated. I’m not gonna lie,” McLaurin said. “Everything that has transpired up until this point has been disappointing and frustrating. I want to continue my career here. I’ve created my life here.”

McLaurin did not report to training camp on time and missed the first four days, resulting in $200,000 worth of fines.

McLaurin later reported to camp and did not practice. The Commanders put McLaurin on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list.

The situation took a turn for the worse on July 31 when McLaurin requested a trade. However, a deal never came to fruition.

The team activated McLaurin on Aug. 16, but the star wide receiver did not participate in team activities due to his hold-in.

Over a week later, McLaurin and the Commanders reach a new deal. McLaurin gets his well-deserved pay raise, and the Commanders get their top receiver back at practice with about 2 weeks until their first game on Sept. 7 against the New York Giants.

McLaurin has emerged as one of the most consistent receivers in the NFL with five consecutive 1,000-yard seasons.

The soon-to-be 30-year-old is coming off arguably his best season as a pro, with 82 receptions, 1,096 yards, and a career-best 13 touchdowns.

How Much Will Terry McLaurin Make Under His New Deal?

Heading into the final year of his contract, McLaurin wanted a raise that paid him like one of the best wide receivers in the NFL. The benchmark for a top receiver is $30 million per year. McLaurin was well under that at $23.2 annually.

One of the comparable deals that served as a guide for McLaurin was Pittsburgh’s DK Metcalf, who signed a four-year, $132 million extension that took his annual pay to $33 million per year.

While McLaurin didn’t get the $33 million per year, his new deal brings him above $30 million annually, making him one of the 10 highest-paid players at his position.
