Ben Shelton supports girlfriend and Washington Spirit soccer star Trinity Rodman every opportunity he can.
After his stint at his first ever ATP Finals concluded on Friday with a straight set loss to Jannik Sinner in Turin, Italy, Shelton wasted no time traveling back to the US to cheer on Rodman at a sold out Audi Field in Washington, DC as the Spirit faced Portland in the NWSL semifinals on Saturday.
He had a great 2025 season. Among its greatest moments was a maiden ATP 1000 tournament win at the Canadian Open. Shelton got injured at the US Open. He was forced to retire from his Round of 32 match. Shelton was off the court and on the soccer field for nearly a month.

Shelton was pictured with VIP Washington, DC natives and famous athletes supporting Rodman and the Spirit. Those VIPs were fellow tennis player Frances Tiafoe and Olympic gymnastics legend Dominic Dawes.

Rodman was limited in the Spirit’s 2-0 semifinal win marked her first return to action in a month since spraining her right MCL on October 15. The Spirit wanted to get Rodman, who entered the game with a new pink hairstyle, playing time to prepare her for a bigger role in the championship.

The Spirit will appear in back-to-back finals. The team’s opponent will be the winner of the defending champion Orlando Pride and NJ/NY Gotham FC semifinal on Sunday.
With Shelton’s tennis season officially over, rest assured he will be Rodman’s biggest cheerleader as her Washington Spirit try to end win the franchise’s second ever NWSL Championship (2021).
