Mohamed Salah could be heading for an Anfield exit as Liverpool come to terms with an agonising end to the season.

Liverpool have been left deflated after a 2-0 defeat to Everton crushed their title dream, which is likely to mean the only trophy they win this season is the Carabao Cup. It’s a painful end for Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool career, particularly as he was being tipped to win a Quadruple just over a month ago.

The Reds are now moving forward with talks to bring in the next manager, Arne Slot, who would bring his own backroom team from Feyenoord to help the club transition into a new era.

Changes off the field could be reflected by a major change on the pitch too though, as it is still undetermined what will happen with 31-year-old Egyptian superstar Salah.

He has always been off-limits but sources are indicating that there is an increased feeling that he could leave the club this summer, at a time when his contract will have one-year remaining.

His goals record is still strong as he sits fifth in the Premier League charts for this season, yet his impact and importance to the team seems to be on the wane.

Liverpool are expecting a bid to land from Saudi Arabian side Al-Ittihad and while last year’s £150million offer was dismissed out of hand, this time there is more doubt rising over whether that would be the case.

Talks will seek clarity from the player on his future, with Liverpool keen to give him the opportunity to have his say on his next step. If he shows an openness to leave then Al-Ittihad would be encouraged to make their opening bid, with a figure in the region of £70million being touted.

The Saudi Pro League see Salah as an icon of their football vision and would put him on a pay level similar to Cristiano Ronaldo.

There is potential for Liverpool to buy a new wide player this summer even if Salah stays, at a time when there has also been some speculation around Luis Diaz leaving the club.

Salah’s situation will not be dealt with formally until a new manager is appointed but there does feel like a good possibility these are his final days at Anfield.
