The eventual winner of the 2022 British Open will secure the Claret Jug at one of the most iconic venues in the entire world of golf — the Old Course at St. Andrews. But that famous piece of hardware won’t be the only thing they’ll be taking home on Sunday afternoon.

Along with the Claret Jug, the Open champion will also bank the largest payday in tournament history. So, what is the purse at the 2022 British Open, and how much money will the winner take home?

Purses on the PGA Tour have exploded over the past few years, and that’s exactly the case for the Open Championship this year. The R&A has set the purse for the British Open at a whopping $14 million, which is the largest in tournament history.

The winner will take home $2.5 million from that pot, the most lucrative prize we’ve ever seen at The Open. Surprisingly, that’s only the fifth-highest payout we’ll see on the PGA Tour this season.

Rory McIlroy and Viktor Hovland entered the final round at St. Andrews tied for the lead at 16 under par, but Cameron Smith, Cameron Young, Dustin Johnson, and more will be trying to chase them down all day. All of them in search of the Claret Jug and a cool $2.5 million payday.
