Beyond her stellar play on the tennis court, Jessica Pegula has proven to be an outstanding ambassador for the WTA just by being her kind, honest,, and generous self.
If Pegula is not among your favorite WTA players, here are three reasons she should be.
- The 2024 US Open finalist has not won her elusive Grand Slam yet. Still, she is the biggest cheerleader for American comrades who have done it: 2023 US Open champion Coco Gauff and 2025 Australian Open champion Madison Keys. Pegula even predicted a Keys win at Melbourne after she was beaten by her in the Adelaide final. US women’s tennis appears to be a sorority of women cheering each other on. Pegula is at the forefront of it.

- In her victory speech at Sunday’s Austin Open trophy ceremony, Pegula encouraged fans more than once to stick around and watch the women’s doubles final featuring McCartney Kessler. Pegula has played a lot of doubles in her career, most notably with Coco Gauff.

- Jessica Pegula probably would prefer her latest act of kindness to fall under the radar, but she gave the Austin Open doubles’ players a ride to Indian Wells in her private jet. That meant she stuck around hours after winning the title to help the girls (Zhang Shuai and Yuan Yue) who faced some logistical issues (and potentially nine hours of driving).
Jessica Pegula is a fun player. Whether she is taking the New York subway during the US Open or hanging around the locker room, it is great that the 31-year-old is among one of the best players on court and more importantly one of the finest people off court.
