This is arguably the best game of the day.
The Buccaneers’ comeback against the Eagles fell short in Week 4 despite Philadelphia’s failure to complete a pass in the second half.
Tampa Bay’s Bucky Irving is having a breakout season as the lead running back. Irving has 237 rushing yards, 193 receiving yards, and two total touchdowns.
However, Irving was spotted on crutches at the Bucs’ facility. Irving was wearing a protective boot over his left foot, as he deals with a foot sprain. Irving is considered week-to-week, giving him a chance to play on Sunday.
The Bucs did get back Chris Godwin in Week 4, who had three catches for 26 yards in his first game in nearly a year.
For Seattle, the Seahawks picked up a huge division victory over the Arizona Cardinals last Thursday night. After the Seahawks dominated the first half, the Cardinals outscored Seattle 17-9 in the second half to make things close. In the end, Jason Myers hit a game-winning field goal as time expired to give Seattle the 23-20 win.
Sam Darnold and Jaxon Smith-Njigba are off to a tremendous start, as JSN ranks second (402) in receiving yards.
This game features two of the NFL’s best defenses. Like any Todd Bowles defense, the Bucs are going to blitz and stop the run (85.0 rushing yards per game, fifth best in the NFL). Meanwhile, Seattle’s defense is second in scoring defense (16.8 points per game).
The Irving injury news scares me. If he’s out, and it’s trending that way, it’s tempting to take Seattle. However, Mayfield thrives in this situation — 15-8 ATS as an underdog. I’ll take the Bucs to cover.
Pick: Buccaneers +3.5 (-115)
Buccaneers vs. Seahawks Over/Under
The Bucs and the Seahawks have two excellent defenses.
However, don’t sleep on their offenses. Both teams average over 23 points per game — Seattle at 27.8 and Tampa Bay at 24.3.
The Bucs have scored at least 20 points in 10 consecutive games. I’m expecting that trend to continue as the over hits.
