Collin Morikawa Sends a Scary Message to the Rest of the PGA Tour Ahead of the U.S. Open
If you thought Collin Morikawa looked confident during his first career major victory, wait until you see him with a win under his belt.
Morikawa won the 2020 PGA Championship at TPC Harding Park by executing some daring shots to perfection down the stretch. And that was the first time he was ever in contention at a major. The 23-year-old phenom has a little bit of Tiger Woods in him, and he’s more confident than ever heading into his second major as a full-time PGA Tour player. His comments before the U.S. Open at Winged Foot Golf Club should worry the rest of the field.

Golf fans knew a young Morikawa would grow into a star on the PGA Tour, but most didn’t expect him to rise to the top so quickly.
In just his second career major championship appearance, Morikawa won the 2020 PGA Championship by two strokes. Whereas most younger players fold under the pressure of a major, Morikawa relished it. He executed his best golf shots down the back stretch, too, highlighted by an eagle on the 70th hole of the tournament.
Morikawa is brimming with confidence as he’s risen to the No. 5 golfer in the world, and he’s excited to go for his second straight major this weekend.

Some golfers live for the biggest moments, and some can’t handle the heat. Tiger Woods thrived under the most pressure, and Morikawa is already showing much of the same in his young career.
Ahead of the U.S. Open this weekend, Morikawa is excited to feel the rush of a major championship again.
It’s just who is going to step up to the next moment. We’re on a different stage now. It’s not just another amateur event or another college event or whatever it is. This is the big time. This is the major. So yeah, you’ve got to step up, and you can’t be scared of taking another step because that puts you in another level of golf.

Morikawa might be young, but he has a swagger about him that you can’t teach. He showed that pressure doesn’t faze him a bit with his performance at the PGA Championship, and now he’s even more confident heading into the second major of the year.
I don’t think I approach it any different. I think walking here as a major champion, you have a sense of knowing how to get things done. Yes, I’ve only done it once, but I’ve done it. You just want more. You get that little taste of what it’s like, and you know why guys mark in their calendars the major championships for the year. So it’s not like I’m showing up not knowing what a major championship feels like. You still have that feeling here even without the fans. You can tell how guys are prepping, how guys are getting ready, but for me it’s just, OK, let’s come out here, I see all these guys every week, and let’s have some fun playing golf.
