Derek Carr Confirms Shoulder Injury

While speaking during a sermon at Church LV in Las Vegas, Carr made his first public comments about his shoulder since the report became public on April 11 that the veteran quarterback’s injury threatens his availability this season.

Carr clapped back at media outlets, including ESPN, for speculating about his shoulder and the severity of the injury.

“I have an MRI report to prove it. The team knows about it. We’ve been in constant communication,” Carr said. “There’s nothing wrong. We’re figuring it out, and we’re gonna go forward with that.”

Carr has been absent from the Saints’ voluntary offseason program. Carr’s wife, Heather, suffered a miscarriage when they were supposed to fly to New Orleans, delaying their trip.

“I say all that to say, let’s be people that don’t judge and point out and just think the worst when you don’t really know what people are going through, Amen?” Carr explained during the sermon. “And so, we’ve been taking care of our family. If it’s going to be faith, family, football, it’s going to be faith, family, football, no matter what the situation is.”

Saints Took A Quarterback During 2025 NFL Draft

Carr’s comments come days after the Saints drafted Louisville quarterback Tyler Shough in the second round.

The 25-year-old Shough was the third quarterback taken, behind Miami’s Cam Ward to Tennessee and Ole Miss’ Jaxson Dart to New York.

Loomis reiterated that a healthy Carr would be the starter. However, Loomis said in a predraft press conference that the team is waiting for clarity on Carr’s injury and treatment plan.

Regardless, the Saints were clearly concerned enough about Carr to use a second-round pick on his possible successor.
