Per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Carr is battling a shoulder injury that has “put his availability for 2025 in doubt.” It’s believed to be an injury to his throwing shoulder.
Carr is reportedly considering his options, with one being surgery.
Carr is coming off a 2024 season where he missed seven games with hand and oblique injuries.
The 34-year-old is entering the third year of his four-year, $150 million contract he signed before the 2023 season.
In two seasons with the Saints, Carr holds a 14-13 record as the starter, with 6,023 passing yards, 40 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions.
Carr’s future was uncertain after hiring first-year head coach Kellen Moore, who remained noncommittal toward the veteran during his opening press conference.
However, Saints general manager Mickey Loomis told reporters in February that Carr would be back on the roster for the 2025 season.

To quote MTV’s The Challenge, “This changes everything.”
If Carr opts for surgery, he will likely miss time next season. How much time depends on the severity of the injury.
If Carr elects for surgery, the Saints might have to rethink their draft strategy.
The Saints have the No. 9 pick in the NFL Draft. Do they have to consider taking a quarterback now?
Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders could fall to No. 9. If the Saints want Sanders badly, do they trade up with a team like the New England Patriots to get to No. 4?
If Carr won’t miss a significant time, does Kellen Moore go with the in-house options of Spencer Rattler and Jake Haener?
All options should be on the table until a decision on Carr is made, which should come soon.
