Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel addressed trade rumors involving several players, including Jaylen Waddle and De’Von Achane.

Mike McDaniel Addresses Dolphins Trade Rumors

With the Dolphins at 1-5, rumors have been swirling that the team will be looking to trade away some of its top players ahead of next month’s deadline.

While speaking with the media on Friday, McDaniel put an end to the trade rumors for now.

“All [trade] rumors about Miami Dolphins players are baseless currently,” McDaniel said via the Dolphins’ social media accounts. “And that’s unfortunate. Personally, not just this year for this team, this time of year bothers me for the sake of the individual player that’s having to answer questions about his long-term journey or where he’s playing questioned on rumors or thoughts of other people.”

Earlier this week, SNY reported that the New York Giants are “big-game hunting” for a receiver ahead of the deadline. The Giants lost Malik Nabers to a season-ending knee injury and are in desperate need of another pass-catcher to help quarterback Jaxson Dart.

One of the receivers mentioned in the report was Waddle. For the Giants to acquire Waddle, the Dolphins would need something drastic to shift the conversation, such as a “directive from ownership” or “significant draft compensation.”

The fifth-year wide receiver has 29 receptions for 390 yards and three touchdowns in six games this season.

Waddle, who turns 27 in November, signed a three-year, $84.75 million extension in May 2024, keeping him on the team through the 2028 season.

The other predominant internet rumor that surfaced involved a trade with the Seattle Seahawks. In this hypothetical deal, the Dolphins would send Achane to Seattle for cornerback Tariq Woolen.

Jaelan Phillips and Bradley Chubb have also been frequently brought up in trade rumors.

Again, this is purely speculation, as the Dolphins have not signaled to teams that they are shopping players before the Nov. 4 deadline.

Dolphins’ Season is on the Line This Weekend

Miami’s season is on life support.

After last week’s loss to the Los Angeles Chargers, quarterback Tua Tagovailoa threw several unnamed teammates under the bus by saying that guys are showing up late to meetings.

Tagovailoa later apologized for the comments.

However, the writing is on the wall. The team is falling apart on and off the field.

McDaniel is clearly coaching for his job. A loss to the two-win Cleveland Browns this weekend could be the nail in the coffin for McDaniel.

The Dolphins face the Browns (2-4) in Cleveland at 1 p.m. ET on Oct. 19. It could be an ugly game due to inclement weather in the area, so expect a low-scoring affair.
