Saquon Barkley opening night

Almost every Eagles player that spoke on Super Bowl opening night sang the praises of Saquon Barkley after a historic debut season for the running back.

Eagles praise Saquon Barkley at opening night

Saquon Barkley has broken all kinds of records this season and he is on the verge of postseason history heading into the Super Bowl, needing just 29 yards to break the NFL’s single season rushing yards record including the playoffs.

After such an impressive first season in Philadelphia, it comes as no surprise that Barkley’s teammates were showing their affection on Super Bowl LIX opening night.

Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown said: “We have a superstar running back who’s incredible, and we’re trying to do anything and everything possible to make sure he’s doing what he’s supposed to do.”

Six-time Pro Bowler and Philadelphia right tackle Lane Johnson added: “It’s a lot of fun when you have a guy with the capability to take it to the house every time he touches it.”

Barkley rushed for over 2,000 yards in his first season away from the New York Giants and he is now a short favorite with most USA betting sites to be named Offensive Player of the Year.

Barkley relishing first Super Bowl

Barkley himself was an important feature of Super Bowl opening night and with the superstar running back certain to play a huge role in New Orleans, everyone wanted to know what he had to say.

“It [being at the Super Bowl] means everything.” he said. “That’s life, though. You might have adversity, you might have ups and downs. But it’s who you are in those moments, and I never lost faith and I just kept my head down and kept working.

“I was able to get here and surround myself with unbelievable individuals, and when you’re able to do that, you’re gonna have a lot of success.”

The addition of Barkley to an already formidable Eagles offense may just be enough to get Philadelphia over the line in the Super Bowl this time, after narrowly missing out in 2023 to the Chiefs.
