Numerous NFL head coaches get the pink slip either during or just after the NFL season.
One NFL head coach has already been let go. The New York Jets fired Robert Saleh after the Jets started the season 2-3.
When teams struggle, head coaches are the first to be fired. Some organizations are a little more patient, but others are not.
The only team in the NFL that refuses to fire a head coach is the Pittsburgh Steelers. Since 1969, the Steelers have had three head coaches, which is unheard of.
We take a look at five NFL head coaches who are on the hot seat.
Five NFL Head Coaches On The Hot Seat
The Monday after week 18 is considered black Monday in the league due to the numerous NFL head coaches that are let go.
Here are five NFL head coaches that are on the hot seat.
Kevin Stefanski, Cleveland Browns
Kevin Stefanski has been forced to start Deshaun Watson all season. Watson has been the worst starting QB in the league. He tore his Achilles and the Browns will start Jameis Winston in week 8.
Stefanski being on the hot seat is not his fault, it is on the Haslams. The Haslams gave Watson the worst deal in NFL history and forced Stefanski to continue to start him.
However, the owners will blame Stefanski. Stefanski is giving up play-calling duties to Ken Dorsey, a sign Stefanski is losing power in the organization.
The Cleveland Browns are 1-6 and last in the AFC North.
It is not fair but Kevin Stefanski has been let down by the Haslams and is on the hot seat.
Doug Pederson, Jacksonville Jaguars
The Jacksonville Jaguars collapsed significantly last year and missed the playoffs. They have gotten off to a poor start this season, having a 2-5 record.
They gave QB Trevor Lawrence a big contract, which means the blame will fall squarely on their head coach for their poor start.
Jacksonville’s defense has been lit up and they struggle against the pass. The offense has not looked good. Trevor Lawrence was expected to be an elite QB and this has not occurred.
However, the blame will not be put on Lawrence, it will be on the head coach.
After a major collapse last season, and getting off to a poor start this year, Doug Pederson is on the hot seat.
Mike McCarthy, Dallas Cowboys
It feels like every season Mike McCarthy is on the hot seat but this year feels different.
Jerry Jones was critical of the coaching staff and if Jones is unhappy, this may be the end of McCarthy’s run as the Cowboys’ head coach.
Dallas is 3-3 but their losses have been embarrassing. They gave up 44 points to the Saints and 47 points to the Detroit Lions.
The Cowboys look dysfunctional on offense and their defense is getting bullied. They are one-dimensional on offense.
Dallas has not looked good this season. They were lucky to beat the Steelers on a last-second TD and they barely beat the New York Giants, a team they usually dominate.
Mike McCarthy is on the hot seat and if Dallas continues to struggle, Jerry Jones may decide to let his head coach go during the season.
Dennis Allen, New Orleans Saints
The New Orleans Saints are 2-5 but started off the season winning two straight. They have lost five in a row and their defense has looked awful. The Saints have allowed 26 or more points in four straight games. One of those games was against the Denver Broncos, in which the Saints allowed 33 points, to a Broncos team that does not have a lot of offensive firepower.
New Orleans seems to have given up on defense, which head coach Dennis Allen was the defensive coordinator for the Saints for seven years before being promoted.
If the Saints continue down this path and the defense continues to get lit up, Dennis Allen is in danger of losing his job.
Brian Daboll, New York Giants
The New York Giants are 2-5. They are last in the NFC East. Daniel Jones was for some reason given a large contract, despite not showing any reason to deserve the deal.
This has put head coach Brian Daboll in a bad situation. He does not have much of a chance to succeed with Daniel Jones under center. Jones has not improved whatsoever, which the Giants organization will blame Daboll for.
Daboll is in the same position as Kevin Stefanski. Both are not at fault for their team’s rough season but the blame will fall on them. Daboll is on the hot seat.
