Former NBA Star Isaiah Thomas Hints At Potential Return

Longtime NBA guard Isaiah Thomas, who is signed with the G League’s Salt Lake City Stars, told TMZ Sports in a recent interview that he would love to play at least one more season in the NBA.

Isaiah Thomas Played Last NBA Game In 2024

Thomas, who turns 37 in February, last played for the Phoenix Suns on a 10-day contract in the 2023-24 season. He averaged just 1.3 points and 3.2 minutes in six games off the bench.

His last NBA appearance was Game 1 of the Suns’ first-round playoff series against the Minnesota Timberwolves on April 20, 2024. He was held scoreless in just three minutes off the bench.

The two-time All-Star is “staying in shape” and “his body feels good.”

“I’m healthy, I’m only 36, I still got a few more years to play … but ideally, I would love to play one more,” Thomas told the media outlet while outside a terminal at LAX.

“I’m staying ready. Staying in contact with a few teams, but just playing it by ear, making sure I stay ready.”

According to Basketball Reference, the last full-season deal Thomas signed was a one-year contract with the Washington Wizards during the 2019 offseason.

Thomas Entered League In 2011

Thomas was selected 60th overall by the Sacramento Kings in the second round of the 2011 NBA draft out of Washington. The Kings, however, traded him to Phoenix in July 2014.

In addition to the Kings, Suns, and Wizards, Thomas also played for the Boston Celtics, Cleveland Cavaliers, Los Angeles Lakers, Denver Nuggets, New Orleans Pelicans, Dallas Mavericks, and Charlotte Hornets.

Thomas emerged as a star with the Celtics in 2016-17, when he finished fifth in MVP voting after averaging a career-high 28.9 points on a career-best 46.3% shooting from the field in 76 games.

He also became only the ninth player under 6-feet tall to be named an All-Star, while also tying Calvin Murphy as the shortest player to be selected to the All-Star Game.

Despite his age, Thomas believes he can still play at a “high level” in the NBA.

In 556 career NBA regular-season games (362 starts) across 12 seasons, Thomas averaged 17.5 points, 2.4 rebounds, 4.8 assists, and 28 minute per contest with a shooting line of 43.4/36.3/87.2.

The 5-foot-9 guard did not disclose which teams he’s been in contact with.
