Iga Swiatek Announces Surprising Scheduling Change

World No. 2 Iga Swiatek has announced a surprising scheduling change. Swiatek is a mainstay on Poland’s national teams, including the United Cup, Olympics, and Billie Jean King Cup.
However, Swiatek is pulling the plug on her participation on behalf of Poland against Switzerland in the Billie Jean King Cup qualifying matches on April 10-12, 2025. The matches will be held in Poland.
Swiatek Has A Lot At Stake
It is no secret that Iga Swiatek has a lot at stake during the upcoming clay court season. She won four of the past five French Open titles, including three straight from 2022 through 2024.
Iga Swiatek wants to win her fifth French Open and sixth career Grand Slam.
The French Open begins on May 25.
Swiatek mentioned in her statement on Instagram that she is focusing on balance and training.
Swiatek Has Talked About The Tough Schedule
Iga Swiatek has publicly spoken about being mentally and physically tired during the summer. She is trying to preserve her mind and body for the crucial clay court swing. Swiatek would also like to pick up points and successes at Wimbledon this summer. She has never gotten past the Wimbledon quarterfinals.
She does not talk about regaining the World No. 1 ranking from Aryna Sabalenka who has built a sizeable lead on her, but that has to be a goal in the back of her mind too.
Aryna Sabalenka is the new #1 in the race to the WTA Finals.
She’s also increased her lead as the world #1 in the WTA rankings to 3071 points.
1. Sabalenka – 10541
2. Swiatek – 7470
3. Gauff – 6063

Players Have Many Demands On Them
Something has to give for these players who are overtraveled, overtired, and overscheduled for 11 months out of the year. Kudos to Swiatek for prioritizing herself.
Though not much has been mentioned about the PTPA lawsuit against the ATP and WTA tours, scheduling is one of the hot-button issues. Short of a resolution across the board to protect the players, each player has to make these difficult choices and look out for his or her best interests.
