LIV Golf Mayakoba Purse and Payouts: The Winner Will Bank $2.5 Million More Than the Honda Classic Champion
Like it or not, LIV Golf is back for its second full season of disruption.
All of the biggest stars on the rival golf tour — including Dustin Johnson, Phil Mickelson, and Cameron Smith — will travel to Mexico this weekend to tee it up at El Camaleon Golf Club at Mayakoba. If that venue sounds familiar, it’s because it used to host the World Wide Technology Championship on the PGA Tour before LIV Golf stole it away. Petty, I know.
LIV Golf Mayakoba will be going toe-to-toe with the Honda Classic on the PGA Tour this weekend, and the purses aren’t even close in size. In fact, the winner of the LIV event will bank $2.5 million more than the winner of the Honda, and that’s no coincidence.
LIV Golf Mayakoba purse and payouts
After an up-and-down first year, LIV Golf will return this weekend for its second season. The 2023 campaign will feature 14 events across seven different countries and conclude in November with the Team Championship in Jeddah.
The first stop on the 2023 schedule will be at El Camaleon Golf Club at Mayakoba, which is the same golf course that hosted the PGA Tour’s WWT Championship until this year.
We know LIV Golf is all about the money, and that won’t change this season. The purse for the LIV Golf event at Mayakoba has been set at $25 million. Of that pot, $20 million will be split among the individual players, and the remaining $5 million will go to the top three finishing teams. The winning team will split $3.5 million, second place will split $1.5 million, and third place will split $500,000.
Here’s how the payouts shake out for the individual competition:

The winner of LIV Golf Mayakoba will bank $2.5 million more than the Honda Classic champion
If you’re wondering why LIV Golf chose this weekend to open up its second season, just take a look at the PGA Tour event that falls on the same week. The Honda Classic will be going on at the same time, and the purse for the event is just $8.4 million. The two previous events on the PGA Tour schedule featured purses of $20 million, as will the two events directly following the Honda.
LIV Golf did this intentionally, of course. Debuting at the same time as a lower-tier PGA Tour event with a weak field and small purse will give LIV Golf Mayakoba a chance to top the Honda Classic. That’s surely true for the payouts, as the winner of the LIV tournament will bank $4 million, and the Honda Classic champion will go home with just $1.5 million.
Coincidence? I think not.
