Lorenzo Musetti

Lorenzo Musetti personified resilience in his Monte-Carlo Masters quarterfinal match with three-time champion Stefanos Tsitsipas.

A quick first set with Tsitsipas cruising along ended at 1-6 for Musetti.  He did not give up.  Musetti revamped, retooled, and began firing his shots, winning the second set 6-3.

In the deciding third set, Musetti found a groove midway through.  He won 14 out of 17 points and never looked back, winning the set 6-4.  He punched his ticket to his first career ATP Masters 1000 semifinal.

Lorenzo Musetti’s Amazing Week

Musetti backed up his Round of 16 win over fellow Italian Matteo Berrettini.  Few thought he could dethrone the defending champion.  In a deep pool of Italian tennis talent, Musetti is sometimes overlooked in favor of World No. 1 Jannik Sinner and Berrettini.  He is proving that he should not be overlooked.

He will face Alex de Minaur, who won his quarterfinal match against Grigor Dimitrov in 45 minutes, 6-0, 6-0.  De Minaur went on to lose his doubles quarterfinal a couple of hours later, but he did not log much court time, so he will be fresh and ready for Musetti.

Maiden Monte-Carlo Masters Champion Will Be Crowned

It is an intriguing final four.  Carlos Alcaraz is the most successful of them, but he narrowly got past Arthur Fils on Friday.  He faces his Spanish compatriot Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the semifinals.  They played one previous time in Barcelona, and Alcaraz won in straight sets.

Alcaraz has never won this tournament.  2025 is the first time he has played it since 2022; the past two years, he skipped it because of injury.

Davidovich Fokina is the 2022 Monte-Carlo Masters finalist; he lost in straight sets to Tsitsipas.

De Minaur and Musetti have split their two previous meetings.  They have never played on clay.  De Minaur is not known for his clay court prowess, but his athleticism and never-say-die attitude make him a factor in every match.
