Ty Gibbs

NASCAR Cup Series driver Ty Gibbs clocked the fastest practice lap Saturday at Bowman Gray Stadium, a quarter-mile track.

The “timed practice” sessions determined the starting lineup for Saturday night’s four heat races.

Gibbs earned the fastest lap during the opening practice session. Gibbs’ quickest lap was timed at 14.019 seconds. The Joe Gibbs Racing driver established the time early and it held throughout the session.

Sunday’s Cook Out Clash shifted to the long-running Winston-Salem, North Carolina, track from a three-year run at the LA Coliseum.

The Clash’s 23-machine lineup will be formed following Saturday’s four heat races and Sunday’s 75-lap final qualifier. The top five finishers from each heat race were slated to earn a pass to the non-points exhibition.

‘Show Stopper’ Chris Fleming Claims Cook Out Madhouse Classic

Nicknamed “The Show Stopper,” NASCAR Modifieds driver Chris Fleming lived up to his moniker by claiming Saturday’s inaugural Cook Out Madhouse Classic at Bowman Gray Stadium.

The short track’s nickname “Madhouse,” also played out during the hard-racing, 125-lap opening event.

Fleming overwhelmed John Holleman IV after the early race leader grappled with Danny Bohn during a restart. Fleming then withstood late-race pressure from Burt Myers, who placed second among 22 drivers. Dan Speeney (P3), Holleman (P4) and Brandon Ward (P5) rounded out the top five.

Former NASCAR Cup Series regular Bobby Labonte earned a P13.
