When analyzing the current system, most NASCAR National Series fans agree it can add extra layers of late-season drama.
But is it fair?
That’s debatable.
Changes are likely coming this offseason.
But for now, Kevin Harvick spoke out on his Happy Hour podcast, declaring a “nuclear meltdown” could ensue if NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series driver Corey Heim, who posted a record 11 wins this season, does not earn the circuit championship. Harvick included Xfinity Series’ Connor Zilisch during his rant.
“When you look at Corey Heim’s stats compared to everybody else, if he doesn’t win this championship, it’s going to be a nuclear meltdown if they don’t change the points the correct way at the end of the year because it shouldn’t even be a question who the champion is in trucks,” Harvick said. “(It) shouldn’t be a question who the champion is in Xfinity,” the 49-year-old added. “So, if Connor Zilisch and Cory Heim don’t win these championships, it’s exactly why we don’t need the system we have. I think that my biggest thing is if we’re going to have a playoffs, you better make the points matter as much as possible or these people are going to eat you up.”
Entering Friday night’s race at Phoenix, Heim (-200) drew the top odds to earn his first NASCAR Truck Series title, per BetOnline Sportsbook.

Ford Aims For Another NASCAR Truck Series Championship
A Ford machine will be gunning for its fourth circuit championship in a row Friday. Reigning champion Ty Majeski seeks back-to-back titles. In 2023, Ben Rhodes claimed the top trophy, one year after Zane Smith.
Majeski will be making his third final four appearance over the past four seasons. Matt Crafton was the last pilot to win consecutive titles in 2013-14.
