Novak Djokovic Is Center Of Tennis Attention Day Before ATP Finals Begin

Novak Djokovic is the greatest tennis player of all time. There is no argument to support any other train of thought.

However, the reason that some fans do not embrace him wholeheartedly as they do with Rafael Nadal or Roger Federer is because there tends to be drama.

Djokovic spent the week leading up to winning his amazing 101st ATP title in Athens saying that he did not know if he would play the ATP Finals which start on November 9.

In the meantime, Lorenzo Musetti was trying to play his way into the top eight by winning in Athens. Musetti lost to Djokovic in three tough sets only for Djokovic to say after the match that he was not playing in the ATP Finals. Djokovic told Musetti at the net after the match that he was going to the ATP Finals anyway as an alternate.

It seemed like needless drama that could have been avoided for Felix Auger-Aliassime and Musetti who were both directly affected by Djokovic’s decision.

Like WTA Finals, ATP Finals Are A Botched Affair From The Start

Maybe this is not Djokovic’s fault, the true fault could lie with the ATP for having a tournament with qualification implications conclude the day before the ATP Finals.

I thought last week’s WTA Finals picture launch was lackluster and even said the ATP would do better, but I was wrong. The WTA Finals picture had all eight players. The ATP had only six players in the photo shoot since the others were either not qualified or playing this week.
